    Alternator Questions...

Hard to be 100% sure by the schematic but from what I see, there's basically two main external connections on the '87. One is a Lt. Green/Red wire that goes to the idiot light in the dash, and the other is a group of wires (3 actually) that ALL connect to fusible links (12v+).

    Alternator Questions...

It was internally regulated. I have the schematic on my computer. What do you want to know?

    Alternator Questions...

A '66?! Not that I'm an expert but I don't think I've ever seen an internally regulated alternator from that era. hopefully, someone who IS an expert on the subject will jump in here for you. Oops! Sorry, now that I'm re-reading your post, you're saying that the harness you're using is from the...

Just a guess but maybe the new one is internally regulated whereas the original one was externally regulated?

Whats the deal with mustangs these days

That's an incorrect statement. There are several different Vortec engines with their basic designs ranging from Gen 1 to Gen 4 small blocks. To make a blanket statement as you did only shows how little you know about GM engines. Yes, there ARE some shared parts between many Chevy small blocks...

Want to start your car without depressing the clutch?

IMO, if you were the ONLY person to ever drive the car, go for it. But it's the OTHER dummies that may start your car that you need to be worried about. Your choice.

    tunin a 2v carb

That's great if you know there's no vacuum leaks, you know the float's set correctly, the carb hasn't been "played with" and if all you're trying to do is set a decent idle. Personally, I'd like a little more info about what the symptoms are and what we're actually working on.

    tunin a 2v carb

Why do you think the carb needs tuning? Quite often, what people think is a carb problem, turns out to be something else. What exactly are the symptoms, and what are we working on?

Overdrive Light Flashing On and Off

As I recall, the light flashing is just the system's way of letting you know there's a problem. In the past, I've had success by simply disconnecting the battery for a minute to reset the module.

Whats the deal with mustangs these days

What's stupid about this thread is that you guys keep talking about LS1-powered trucks. Unless I'm nuts (which is debatable), there is no such thing as a LS1-powered truck unless somebody did an engine swap. LS1's are only used in cars. The GM truck lines use the Vortec engines which are a...

    Shifter observations

While I agree the aftermarket shifter is much more "crisp" shall we say, it's also so much so that it's hard to shift into gear at times. There's actually even times where it simply won't go into first gear and I have to jiggle it around to get it to go into gear. Between that and the increased...

    Starter Bike

Never riden one myself. I understand they are great handling bikes though. They're really not my cup of tea. I'm not big on thumpers, and the overall look of the bike isn't pleasing to me. I like the Japanese inline 4's myself. Also never liked Harley's either.

    Shifter observations

I installed my B&M short-throw shifter a month or so ago and today I installed the factory one back on it. I can honestly say that I think I prefer the factory shifter to the B&M shifter. Yeah, I know the factory one is much taller and therefore a slower shifter because of the longer throws but...

    Starter Bike

Yes, the Ninja 500 is a great first bike as long as it's physically okay for you. Not knowing how big you are, I can't say for sure. It should be fine for an "average" size guy though. Don't listen to anybody who tries to tell you that you need a bigger, faster bike just because your freinds...

    Starter Bike

"...And, if you get a 500cc...all your buddies will be leaving you behind as they'll most likely have 600's." Selecting a bike based on what your freinds have is ridiculous. I'd seriously question the maturity level of anyone who'd suggest such a thing. Trying to keep up with experienced...

    Starter Bike

I'm 48 and started riding when I was about 10. Started racing within a couple years, and owned, built and raced all sorts of bikes. I had literally dozens of bikes before getting my first 750 and to be honest, I think that's what I owed my many years of relatively safe riding to. I've taken and...

    Top Gear: Shelby GT500

To NOT compare them is un-American. I get that America has been wrapped up in a Ford vs. Chevy battle for decades but that doesn't translate into this being an intelligent comparison. While they are the two company's quickest, fastest, most cars sporty cars, they are two totally different takes...
