I am just looking for good performance and driveability out of the Mustang. It has a good engine (except for the burnt valve which I caused trying to make the 625 Road Demon work) :bang: :bang: As far as you wanting to race....... bring it on. The Cougar will play. Only problem I have is...

    I need electrical help

Do you have the original tail lights? They will corrode. Take some emory cloth and clean inside and out. You need to do where the bulb goes plus open the trunk, pull the harness off and clean. If your light bulb socket is loose it could be a bad ground. If your wires are original they are...

If only the horse could catch the cat

Rocker arms are moving. Engine runs with no smoke. Four questions: 1.) I broke part of the head off the intake valve. Would I not get backfiring through the carb?? 2.) I broke part of the head off the exhaust valve. Would I not get backfiring out of the tail pipes?? 3.) The...

If only the horse could catch the cat

Number two has zero compression. Not the bottom end but the head. Both valves are operating. Both #1 and #3 are solid. I say the bottom is okay because I squirted oil in the cylinder with no change. When I cranked the engine (no plugs) after the oil test I had puffs of "smoke" coming out...

Burned a valve -- now what??

The heads were re-done only a couple thousand miles ago. It looks like I now have a burnt valve. I am reading that "lapping" the valve can cure the problem. (Somebody smarter than me please explain all that is involved in this process) I also read that you should not lap the...

    Estimated 351w Horsepower?

Your setup is much like mine on my convertible 69 Cougar. 351 W 10/1 750 Holley DP with 2.73 gears made 467 HP. Problem was the FMX tranny I had. I would also suggest you forget the underdrive system.

If only the horse could catch the cat

Okay, I am going to do a compression test again before I tear anything down. A burnt valve would show low compression. A wore out cam would show what????? Remember this engine has 310000 miles on it. The valve covers and top of the heads are clean. All the springs and keepers are in place...

Can someone explain the power valve

On my convertible 1969 Cougar with 10.5 to 1 compression (not the CJ) 351W with 2.73 gears on an auto tranny I pushed 11.11 at Sears point. Pretty much stock. That was with a 600 Holley. Barry Grant has not figured out small blocks. That's All I can say!

Can someone explain the power valve

I do not know what your jets are. I think 70/78. Also that carb has a problem with the secondaries being just a little bit open. At idle, are all your corners the same??
