Lost about which rearend to use.

If these are factory-installed Ford gears, the 3.50 ratio gears will be timed (non-hunting gear set). Do not get them out of time, or you will have problems with either noise and/or accelerated ring and pinion wear. You should see a white paint mark on one of the driving pinion gear teeth and...

Lost about which rearend to use.

The backlash settings for a NEW ring & pinion are .004"-.008". The tolerances of a used set of gears is .008"-.012" of backlash. You also have to measure case spread and pinion pre-load when assembling the 3rd member. You will also have to setup the tooth contact pattern on the gears. This is...

76 maverick spindles tie rods etc, on a 65 mustang

If you have the stock, unmodified suspension, then the swap MAY work with no problems. If you have lowered the A-arms and have lowering springs, you may encounter excessive bumpsteer or accelerated tire wear from the installation of the '74-'77 Maverick front disc brake assemblies. This...

How to identify rearends & Differentials

There weren't any factory-issued 3.73 gears in either the 8- or 9-inch rear ends from Ford. The 3.73 ratio wasn't available until the Spicer 7.5" & 8.8" rear ends came out for the Ford trucks and the Fox-bodied Mustangs (the rear ends with the bolt-on rear end housing covers) . In aftermarket...

    replacing brake lines

There are different diameter hard brake lines, but all I've ever seen on the early Mustangs was 3/16" diameter tubing. The common (standard) size SAE inverted flare fitting, for 3/16" hard brake line, is 3/8"-24. However, in the early Fords there could be 3 other (larger) sized fittings...

    replacing brake lines

[The bulk of this post copied from another thread you had posted in which I made a reply to] This is a '65 that belongs to a friend of mine. 1. http://ultrastang.com/Images/Scanned/Steven/02.jpg 6 years ago, Steven loaned me this blue '65 so it could be used as a "guinea pig" for me to...

    Brake line install questions

Don't know exactly what bolts you're referencing(?) If you are talking about the brake line fittings, run them down until snug then about 1/8 - 1/4 turn passed that. If you still have any seepage, give it another 1/8 turn. If you have to go beyond a 1/2 turn, total, after intial tightening...

    8 inch fluid change

Only the early '57-'59 Ford 9-inch rear ends had drain plugs in the bottom of the sump in the center of the rear end housing. You will either have to vacuum the gear oil out, or pull the axles and then remove the entire 3rd member from the housing to get the oil out and to clean out the...

    Is this true???

I see that VMF is back up again. As I suspected, it was bunk.

    Is this true???

    I suspect the same.

    Gear oil

A 9-inch rear end will require 5 pints of gear oil. That would be all of two (32oz.) bottles and part of another bottle --so, you'll need to pick up three bottles of gear oil. Pour the first two bottles in, then pour the 3rd bottle in until the oil just starts to run out the fill plug.

    94-04 calipers on 67-68

Neither you nor LMan offended me. I thought it was all quite amusing, actually.

Lman elicits yet another negative response from someone. :nono: You are going to have to work more on your people skills.

    Manual brake master cylinder

I felt like I was getting Altzheimers or something there for a minute, but after I went back and re-read your post, I could see that you were saying that you had a '67 MC sitting around that you compared and not that you had an actual '67 Mustang. Ok, it makes more sense now. Welp, since...

    Manual brake master cylinder

Hmmm... Ok, 65fastbackresto is dealing with a '65 Mustang. You have a '67 --I'm guessing? --I have a '68, myself. I owned a '66 fastback, but that was a long time ago, so I don't have it anymore to compare. I don't have a '65/'66 manual brake pedal pushrod in the shop to compare by, but...

    Manual brake master cylinder

This is just my guess, but I think the reason the RPVs were installed in the vehicles through the 60s & '70s was because that was just the auto manufacture's mind set that "this is the way we have always done it." However, since the vehicles of the pre-60s largely had MCs that were mounted under...

    Manual brake master cylinder

Dennis, I understand your thinking and reasoning, and I don't want you to think I'm trying to get into a pissing contest or anything like that. We are just having a simple discussion here in weighing in on what the possible problems could be related to 65fastbackresto's application. If a...

    94-04 calipers on 67-68

That information/setup came out in 2001 from a guy named Doug Bender, from Pennsylvania, who goes by the board name "Fairlaniac". The setup shown was developed by Doug and was used and tested on his friend Earl Hayes' drag car. It uses a '99-'04 SN95 Mustang V6/GT front caliper mounted on a...

    Manual brake master cylinder

I guess to clarify what I was saying about the RPVs in the Maverick/Granada disc/drum MCs...In the original Ford-produced MCs, you would have found the RPV installed in the secondary port, in the hole, just below the flare seat in the opening of the secondary side port. Many of the...
