    broken valve spring, now what?

I would go full set, based on the requirement for the cam you have installed..... BTSTDT.

    Cam question

Ported TFS TW's ... better than stock long runner intake.... auto transmission with a tight converter....... yep, I would use the stock cam (with 1.7 RR's or split 1.6/1.7's for a long term). Is it worth installing a custom cam and valve train to optimize that setup....... absolutely.

    Another egr delete question

Do you mean between the heads and the intake? .... EGR port ends at the heads. If NOx emissions compliance is not a problem, and you decide to eliminate the EGR....... it will not cause any driveability problems. BTW, the blocking "shields" you need to install with the lower intage gaskets, is...

306 CID + AFR 185 heads signing off before 6000 rpms? .......... yep, you got problems there. And the F-303 is one of them.

    firing order for injectors

For the injectors, it doesn't work that way....check the info at Ford Fuel Injection Injector Firing Order .... since you have an aftermarket EEC on the way, simply disconnect the O2 sensors (force a permanent open loop condition) and test drive it until the Megasquirt arrives.

    Cam and rockers

Any camshaft upgrade requires a valve train upgrade. Stock valve springs = stock camshaft.

    strange camshaft timing....

Such a condition is not a possible cause for a no start. If it was, truck V8 engines would never start (4 injectors are pulsed at once).... the system is simply using a FI waste pattern. A/F contol will be affected though, as Jrichker explained, but the engine should start and run. Should...

Is this theory correct? Vacuum related

One simple question I have...... do you have problems with the power brakes?..... reason for the question is to make sure you are measuring vacuum from the correct port....... and a valve train problem will show as a pattern if the preload is localized on a few of them only. LUK

Is this theory correct? Vacuum related

Did you "revisit" the valve train?
  14. joel5.0

    Very low vacuum, decent idle.

Suggest to revisit the valve train and make sure you don't have an excessive lifters preload problem. LUK

HO cam into non HO 302 motor

    1) Roller ready block. 2) Nope..... if the system is a single HEGO setup, no problem. 3) Nope..... 5.8L setups have exactly the same wiring configuration. 4) Yep.... just make sure you degree the cam and look into the possibility of advancing it. 5) Yep..... + a low boost SC (~6 psi) years...

    egr tad tab

You don't need to program something into the EEC logic it does on its own. As soon as an EGR related failure code is logged, the EEC deletes/bypasses the EGR function automatically, that is the Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) strategy the system follows when such type of failures occur...

TAD or TAB.. do I need them?

Yep..... you will only have the solenoid circuit failure codes showing in a KOEO but they will not affect A/F and spark advance strategies, or driveability and performance.

    Carb size

..... back in the day, I had a little 289 that performed better, was driveable, and took care of some SBC', SBM and a few BBC's with an 850 cfm DP. This was the time when Shelby's 715's, 735's and Boss 780's Holley carburetors were sought as upgrades for our little 289/302 engines. Is bigger...

    Cam Help

Any upgrade in the cam department, requires an upgrade in the valve train (valve springs, retainers). Since you have stock heads, they would need to be upgraded however, adding a cam with stock heads will not provide big gains in performance. Based on the .500" lift limit the book mentions, I...
