    Convertible Top Question

Have two Mustang verts. The tops are supposed to go up and down evenly. The old one ('86) goes up and down evenly, but leaks at the header pretty bad during a heavy rain (either adjustment or seals), and makes a lot of wind noise from around the driver's window (probably a leak there too)...

    1999 COBRA

There are a couple of threads on this issue here: http://www.svtperformance.com/. Apparently, the 99 block is the strongest of the 96 - 99 versions (made in Italy), while the 01 is the weakest - made here. Anyway, according to the threads, as long as you don't get greedy (ha!) and keep the...

    Clutch Adjustment.....

On my '86, the pedal kept getting closer to the floor over time. Tried the stocker adjustment thing many times to no avail. Finally, had to replace the clutch so I did the whole quadrant, F/W adjuster R&R thing using Steeda pieces, with an OEM cable. Turns out that the stock quadrant's teeth...

    Stock Ride Height ??

'01 Cobra Vert - stock height: F - 28"; R - 29" (ground to center of lip). Now with H&R SSs: F: 25-7/8"; R - 27" (SAA) after two years. Car settled about 3/8" all around since installation. Too close to the ground now - really have to watch high spots in the road.

Steeda Sport Springs V.S. Eibach Prokit Springs

Put H&R Super Sports on the 01 vert. Ground to center of lip: front 25-7/8"; rear 27" Been on the car for two years so these are good numbers. With Bilstein 00 Cobra Rs, rides much tighter. Did need CC plates to get alignment within specs. Warning: with these springs you have to watch high...

    DYNO RESULTS FOR 99 COBRA

My '01: 300.2 RWHP SAE; 299.4 RWTQ SAE; by Springfield Autosports' Dynojet. Borla cat back, stock H, MAC CAI, 3:55s - that's it. Ambient air was 80 degrees. Lots of impartial folks standing around watching.

    Smog legal gears? What the...

The same caveat came with my King Cobra Clutch. Even if gears "technically" impact smog due to increased fuel consumption, I must be missing the connection a clutch and pressure plate have to smog issues, although I'm sure someone can make an argument.

    cobra suspension

I have the FMS "C" springs on an 86 GT; they are specific rate front/progressive rate rear; the car sits at 24-3/4" front; 26" rear (ground to center of lip); clear all but the highest speed bumps; ride is rather harsh with the strut/shock combo I have (Monroe Formula GPs). Have the H&R Super...

MAF and CAI for '01 Cobra

Had an O/R x-pipe with Borla cat back on the '01; pretty loud even with the Borla. Took the x off and put the stock cats back on to get through emissions. Seems to feel a little "bottled up" and is quieter. Haven't put the x back on yet. Meanwhile, had it dynoed without the x; 300.2 RWHP...

    Clutch/Clutch Cable Question

Check where the clutch engages. Close to or right off the floor, probably an adjustment issue. If not, probably a tranny issue.
  11. Q

    Another dreaded cold-air intake question.

I have a MAC and a WMS CAI on my two cars. The MAC is chromed and over time is starting to show signs of rust. The WMS is ceramic coated and not only stays cooler than the MAC, it doesn't rust (but will scratch). SOP seems better but no dyno data to prove it.

has this hapeened to anyone else?

I did my own O/R x-pipe conversion on the '01. o2s came right out. The hardest part was unclipping the fronts from the harness. Go elsewhere.

what springs are you guys running? Specific VS. Progressive?

I have the "C" springs on the '86; 650 lbs specific rate. The struts I'm using, Monroe Formula GPs (old Saleen style), are overpowerd by these springs. Hence, the ride is pretty harsh in town. Ride is 24-3/4" front; 26" in back (ground to center of lip). I have the H&R Super Sports...

    lowered springs caused alignment problems

When I put the "C" springs on my 86, major toe-out occured. I brought the toe back using a measuring tape and then took it for alignment; wasn't too far off. Haven't used the off-set rack bushings or CC plates. Car does not bump steer or wear tires on the inside (i.e., too much camber).

    1999 cobra?

Love my '01. More than enough power stock to blow most wannabes off the road if you're so inclined. Now that KB has a blower out, you could fake it pretty well too. Mine puts down 300.2 RWHP/299.4 RWTQ with just a Borla cat back and a MAC CAI. Gets 24 MPG too.

H&R race springs for my 99 cobra?

I have the H&R Super Sports on the '01 vert. Pretty low - looks great - get lots of compliments. However, you really have to watch the high spots in the road. I've hit the k-member hard a few times. You'll probably want to change the struts/shocks too. I put on the Bilstein '00 Cobra Rs...

    Haynes for SVT

I bougth one for my '01 cobra that said it was good up to the '03s, but it didn't discuss the IRS at all. On closer examination, it seemed to talk about the pre-99s only. Took it back.

    installing springs tomorrow

I have the "C" springs on my '86 GT - been on for 11 years. Front is 24-3/4 " ground to center of lip; back is 26" same spot. May be a little low in front but I clear all but the highest speed bumps. I have the pony wheels with the same size as you in front - no problems. No bump stear to...

Installed King Cobra clutch...and questions inside...

Not sure "clutch chatter" as described in your post is what I understand the term to mean. With that said, on some cars running an aftermarket quadrant and FW adjuster the pedal just "vibrates" in the resting position. In my kit, Steeda advised that there had to be "slight" pressure on the...

How to secure STB to Firewall for '98 ?

You didn't say what design STB you had. Each design mounts differently. For example, some STBs attach to the firewall through the cowl area with bolts, washers and nuts - you pre-drill the holes; some attach through the firewall pinch weld with bolts (I think the stock 96-97 STB was of this...
