Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

Yes we are noting all that is incorrect. John the current machinist is checking EVERYTHING out, he knows the work that Eastside does so he has a head start on this if you know what I mean. Well, I am not much for law suits and such, first I want to have the final data in my hand before I...

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

Took the engine into a different machinist today. Turns out I have the wrong push rod guides, might be Chevy guides on my motor :nono:, maybe the wrong head gaskets, lighter weight rods, and time will tell what else. Eastside Engines of Tucson never returned my call about the guide plates...

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

They are ALL off Pops! The schmuck machinist got them and installed them as you view them in the image. If he had done what he was hired to do, being installing the rods, rockers, and adjusting the lash this would have been caught. Well maybe... I am lucky I called in the FORD...

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

Bigger problems with my engine! I had a semi retired FORD mechanic, and a car nut and race driver as well, stop by yesterday to look at my engine and to assist with the rocker adjustments. Turns out that the engine builder I used has done me some wrong. The rocker rod guides are not...

Thread (pipe) teflon sealant on timing cover /water pump bolts

I am working on installing the timing cover and water pump on my 302 engine. I had read that some of the bolts contact coolant and require pipe dope or thread sealant. I cannot see any place on the 302 that bolts can contact sealant, maybe the 289 is what was being referred to. Sparx

    66 hood ornament?

I had forgotten about the hood ornaments, I don't believe I ever saw one on a Mustang though.

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

Ok thanks I finally got a fellow on the phone, friend of my neighbor, working at FORD dealer and he verified what you guys have told me and that I am in an OK position. I cannot get the machinist on the phone (no need anyway now), but I am getting comfortable with what Ihave, what to do and...

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

Yes Pops that helps. I did want to put the dist in to do what you spec'd in the post. I have the old dist from the 289, still overwhelmed with the choices for a new unit. The old one is not going to be used, and I know I need a steel gear for this engine. All posts are appreciated- TY...

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

Ok let me see if I can list all that has been done and what is planned. Note that the piston goes up to TOP DEAD CENTER twice throughout the 4-cycles. With the way the crank is laid out, #3 & #5 are at TOP DEAD CENTER at the same time, also true for #4 & #7, #2 & #8, and #1 & #6. In theory...

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

I purchased the block and crank from a private party, and was told it was a roller cam 302, which it is. I brought them to my machinist. After he magnafluxed (sp?) them I ordered the parts thru Summit with his approval of the parts. Machinist provided the complete heads, pistons (and...

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

After thinking on this for a while what I need to know is if the cam and the crank are proper for each other. I got the block and crank together, and I assume my machinist knows what is what. I did ask him before he started if the crank was proper and he confirmed it. Now at least I do know...

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

OK 65 I have the Edelbrock 3722 cam, and I just looked up the spec and it states: firing order (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8). Now I am more confused... :( I thought the crank determined the firing order, well I did say I was a beginner. sparx

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

I think I got it now. Thanks for all the input, I think I got it now. New Issue Being that I am a rookie never having done this before I need this concern about firing order put to rest. My engine right now is a block, and heads. So no intake, valve covers, pan or timing cover. I have been...

65-66 front fender replacements- Do they fit?

NPD says his lower priced fender fits fine, like he is going to admit they suck! Anyway, they do sell original tooling for about 350.00 and the other is abut 150.00. I will ask who makes it and if one of the two you mentioned I will go with that. I call the guy that was linked...

Adjusting valves on 302 with hydralic lifters

Ok. My engine is a built up engine, from a ford virgin 302 roller cam block. It has an Edelbrock mild cam and Edlebrock heads with hydraulic lifters. I had the short block put together by a machine shop. There is no other mechanic at this time, just myself. The machinist told me that you...

65-66 front fender replacements- Do they fit?

Sure. If it is not made by FORD, then how many manufactures are there for aftermarket fenders? So, how do I know when I buy an aftermarket who has made it?

How do you know a fender is a "Goodmark"?
