New '06 Chevy SS line up vs. new mustangs...??

The Impala SS engine is .7 liters larger, puts out 303 HP and 323 Torque. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2006 Impala SS gives the GT a good run for its money (in accleration, not in sales or anything else). It's bland, bland, bland. Doesn't look nearly as nice, and it's FWD, but with that...

    Just got a "real" Mustang!

$5,000 difference is hardly "close in price" - at least not to a poor boy like me. :D

GTO or STANG GT Mind Made Up

I test-drove an 05 GTO today - they are pretty nice cars. I still like the looks of the Stang better, but the GTO has more interior room, IRS, and 100 more horsepower. With the current pricing on the GTO, it's hard to not consider one at $4,000 off MSRP compared to a GT at full MSRP. For...

    05 GTs walked by Used Non-Modded Z28s

Right. Like the Fbodies have a monopoly on this kind of driver. Everything you described as being inherent to F-Body drivers I've seen just as often in Mustangs and ricers. It comes with the territory of low-cost, high-performance vehicles. Whatever. Don't tell that to my 2002...

New '06 Chevy SS line up vs. new mustangs...??

They're all front-wheel drive. No thanks.

    05 GTs walked by Used Non-Modded Z28s

I don't think so. The Z28 was always very competitively priced with the Mustang GT.

    05 GTs walked by Used Non-Modded Z28s

Even though I currently drive an LS1, I much prefer the sound of the Ford 4.6 V8. Some of it might be due to the fact that the F-Bodies don't have true dual exhausts while the Stang does. Just my opinion...

    05 GTs walked by Used Non-Modded Z28s

The LS1 will get better mileage than the GT in almost every instance. Don't be fooled by the 5.7L V8, it gets incredible mileage for the size of engine. I have an 2002 Z28 A4, and it usually gets 22-23MPG with a mix of 50/50 highway/city. Don't think too many GTs are pulling that kind of...

When will the GT get a 6-speed?

One benefit to the higher overdrive with the 6 speed is mileage. M6 Fbodies and Vettes can easily hit 30 MPG on the highway due to the overdrive. The mileage out of the 4.6 V8 isn't really that impressive, an additional OD gear would be nice for those who do some highway driving...

When will the GT get a 6-speed?

Sure there are. A six-speed tranny isn't all that uncommon anymore in a sporty car, but somebody forgot to tell Ford. As another poster pointed out, the Nissan Sentra can be had with a six speed. The Acura RSX is available with a six speed, as is the Mazda RX-8 and the Nissan 350. Even...

Why can stock Ls1's beat the GT - a small insight for noobs to performance cars

265HP vs 345HP, and you won every time? Were those LS1s running? :) The '01 GT is no match for an LS1, not even with a K&N intake. You must have come up against some piss-poor drivers if you beat them.

    05 GTs walked by Used Non-Modded Z28s

Vettes are much cheaper to insure than F-Bodys or Mustangs. At least for me they are :D

    05 GTs walked by Used Non-Modded Z28s

At least for me, 39 years old, single no tickets, no claims, no accidents - the insurance for my 2002 Z28 and a 2005 Mustang GT is virtually identical. Strangely, for a 2002 Vette it's much lower. I've just recently checked into rates on the 2005 GT and 2002 Vette :) Maybe at other age...

    2nd Race with LS1 tonight

All V8 F-bodies have the same transmission and rear end (of the same year). Gearing may be different however.

Agreed. I know the site needs ads, but that Star Wars one is too damn much.

    05 GTs walked by Used Non-Modded Z28s

I agree, but when two cars weigh about the same and have normally aspirated engines, having a 1.1L advantage in displacement certainly doesn't hurt. :D

    05 GTs walked by Used Non-Modded Z28s

I've currently got a 2002 Z28, and best reason I can think of why the Mustang gets walked is pretty simple - displacement. :) The two cars weigh in about the same, but the LS1 has 1.1 liters on the Mustang GT engine, and more horsepower and torque. GM underrated the LS1 in the...

Here we go again---GTO vs. GT

Hah! The GTO is limited production because it's got limited sales, not because it's an exclusive, upper-end vehicle. It's selling like a turd, and GM tries not to build any more turds than they can sell. GM could certainly build more of them if the demand was there - but it's not.
