56K Warning - Need some help from people - take a look at my engine

On the other hand since you live in CA, I would suggest not going carb. As said above, does the Cold air intake tube have a mass air meter on it?

    need computer re-programmed...

it wont be to hard. Just get a roller cam in the HO firing order and some roller lifters maybe some roller rockers while you're at it. Although I'm pretty sure there are HO flat tappet cams if you want to go that route.

yeah you need O2's. You should be getting a check engine light if you don't have them.

    '96 cobra injectors on '95 5.0?

They might. Probably won't run to well. You could get a new mass air(not sensor) calibrated for #24 injectors

    need computer re-programmed...

Well it's more than the computer that controls the firing order. You will have to change the wires on the distributor around for the non-HO order. As far as the fuel injectors go... i would think that you need the chip burned for that wich will cost you a crap load more than a cam will. So go...

    Fun Ford Weekend June 3-4

speaking of chicago schools, today I was at six flags up there and there had to be a million little 8th graders. 400 different schools and they each had their own "Class of 05" tee-shirt. At first I looked at them and was like no way in hell that kid is 18. Good thing they were young though...

    Rattling noise

I decided to do the other gasket since I have it apart and something I noticed that I didn't notice bofore was the valve cover on that side has a hole/crack in it. It looks like someone took a ballpin hammer to it. Now that's not something you see everyday.

    306?

Don't know what kind of budget you have but the gt-40's aren't bad heads and why replace the 1.72's w/ 1.7's? That's going backwards. I'm assuming you have a cobra if the stock heads are gt40?

    Rattling noise

Well I did a compression test before I tore it apart and I got only 30-50psi on heads 1-3. 110ish on 4. 5-8 were fine at 145. So I tear down the pass side and the head looks great. The gasket had a small spot where it was tore a little around a coolant port but it never broke the o-ring...
