Weighed my 91LX convertible Mustang today

One gallon of gasoline weighs roughly 5.8 to 6.5lbs per gallon depending on specific gravity. At max a full tank adds little over 100 lbs to rear.

Weighed my 91LX convertible Mustang today

Specs on car: 1991 LX convertible 2.3L 4cyl T-5 stock 7.5" rear A/C. PS, PB, PW, PDL, less than 1/8 tank of gas. Front axle: 1720lbs. Rear axle: 1300lbs. Total weight: 3020lbs. That should figure to about 57% front/43% rear weight distribution. I was actually suprised it...

Performed a DIS test today to test a theory.

It was my understanding that the two spark plugs per cylinder was a attempt to reduce emissions by trying to promote more complete burning of the air fuel mixture in IIRC is a open chamber low swirl head. My 91 has one coil running passenger side plugs and the other coil runs drivers aside...

Performed a DIS test today to test a theory.

Put new plugs and wires in my 91 LX convertible today and got to thinking. My friend and I got the passenger side done and I decided before doing other side to disconnect all the plug wires off drivers side and see if car would start. It did. I then drove car around the block and no...

    brakes and spindles

The 87-93 2.3L used 10" front brakes, the 87-93 5.0L used 11" front brakes. You can put 11" front brake spindles, rotors, and calipers on the 2.3L A-arms but you have to use a hardened washers where the 2.3L strut mounts to the 5.0L spindles.

    DIS (Distributorless Ignition System) questions

The car runs OK but makes little power and doesnt want to rev over 4000rpm when cold. As soon as it warms up it wont rev over 3000rpm. Have checked converter, fuel pump, new filter, etc. and no difference. Added a new air filter and it seems to run better while cold.

    DIS (Distributorless Ignition System) questions

Greetings. I was wondering if anyone here has had much experience playing around with the DIS on the '91-'93 2.3L Mustangs. I think one of mine are going bad. So here's my questions. 1) Can I just pull the '91 Dual plug head and drop a complete 87 turbo coupe 2.3L head on and run just one...

    Accell 140018 Coil Packs ?

I was looking at buying these http://www.steeda.com/products/coil_packs.php Not because of a performance boost but because the local Advance Autos quoted me $85 each for the coil packs. Steeda's are $59.

    Esslingers Dyno Chart

My dads 1975 Pinto Runabout 2.3L was dyno'd at 215 hp back in late 80's. Naturally aspirated. It was a beast and was very fast but was barely drivable on the street and seemed to require constant maintenance. >11.6:1CR (water injection AND premium mandatory) >Fully ported and polished head...

Head off a '73 Lotus Europa....

In 1973 Lotus was still in England. A 1973 Ford 1600 would have nothing to do with a Mazda motor. According to Wikipedia it was a Cosworth modified 1600cc Kent motor. I would think a 1970's 1600cc Ford motor would be the 1.6L Kent motor. IIRC it was the basis of the Formula Ford cars from...

Who's Converted their 2.3 to Manual Steering?

Same, found a manual rack off a 79 carb turbo coupe. Bought it, ahd it rebuilt and put it on my 86 LX I used to have. Had a devil of a time getting that adpter that goes on the steering shaft. I had P225/60HR-14's all around car on 15x8 wheels and M-5500-B springs, Monroe struts. Car felt...

Head off a '73 Lotus Europa....

IIRC the Ford 1600, 1800, and 2000 are not related to the Ford 2300. Im not the expert but I dont think you can interchange the heads.

What is the most amazing mustang you have ever seen?

My dads 1967 GT500 with 2 x 4bbl 427 medium riser side oiler, Toploader 4 speed and 3.89 detroit locker 31 spine 9" rear. He bought it used IIRC in 1969 off a used car lot. The car lot owner thought it was just a really poorly running Mustang. My dad bought it and immediately filled it...

84 SVO: Any advantage to go with Mass Air Flow system instead Speed Density ?

Is it just me or does a VAM look alot like the Predator Variable venturi carbs that came out in the 80's? The idea was the sliding curved thingy (technical term) gives maximum velocity at all opening sizes to mazimize throttle response.
