How hard is it to go carb? If I went to to 408 or 427?

I wouldn't exactly call it a difficult swap. Time consuming and expensive are better adjectives to use when describing the process. Two main areas need to be addressed. Fuel and Electrical. The fuel system will require new lines and a new pump as well as a new regulator to cope with...

ANOTHER FIRST TODAY!! The Home Owners Assoc claims my BMW is OFFENSIVE!

Sorry, I just assumed that your driveway was in the front of your house because your neighbors can see the BMW parked in the grass. If it's in the backyard behind a fence then you have nothing to worry about. Check out your HOA agreement. That outlines the do's and don'ts. If it's not...

ANOTHER FIRST TODAY!! The Home Owners Assoc claims my BMW is OFFENSIVE!

This may be an unpopular opinion but... Parking in your front yard is to white trash as big wings and stickers are to ricers. That is too nice a car to have parked in your yard neighbors or not. Just sayin!!!!

    kooks are in

Let me know how they fit. The first set Kooks sent had the passenger side collector sitting a full 5/8 of an inch lower than the driver side. I sent the set back to them and they rebent the passenger side. I installed the new set and voila! they were the same as the first set. Currently...

    Connect RollBar to Subframes ???

Attaching the rollbar hoop to the floorpan will most likely provide you with the proper amount of roll protection you seek. I personally would take the opportunity to connect it throught the floorpan and into the subframes in order to take advantage of the additional rigidity found in...

How to trouble shoot MSD 6AL?

It's been a while but the directions are correct. The white wire tells the box when to send a spark signal. It's kind of a juggling act to keep the coil wire close to a ground and make contact with the white wire to ground but it does work. That is, if the box is working.

How to trouble shoot MSD 6AL?

Make sure that the smaller red wire still has power (9-12V) while the engine is cranking. Not just with the key on. That's where my problems appeared. Most of your electrical system will shut down during cranking so that your starter has all the juice it needs. I had to locate a "hot in...

How to trouble shoot MSD 6AL?

The 6AL has three cables going into it for power. Two red and one black. The black is, of course, your ground wire. The thicker of the two red wires (the one coming out with the black wire) is your main power cable. On my setup this wire is always hot. The smaller red wire is the one that...

    351, KOOKS headers, what mid-pipe?

I don't know of a mass produced mid pipe for our combination. I had a local shop weld flanges on the collectors and build a 3 inch X pipe to fit between my current exhaust set up and the flanges on the collector. Works great and cost about $250.00. I know Mike (Low50) purchased his X pipe...

    94/95 351 ... kooks headers?

The people at Kooks are great. They bent a set for my 408W and the passenger side hung down an inch lower than the driver side. I had to use them because I was up against a time deadline (leaving on the Hot Rod Power tour). By the time I returned home the pass side was beat to hell and the...

    EFI vs Carb

I completed my engine build last May and took it on the Hot Rod Power Tour. 1100 miles and no driveability problems other than a long tube header that became overly friendly with the New Jersey roads. (BTW Kooks rebent the header and sent it back to me at no charge.) Carbed and happy in...

    Q? About Motor Mounts

3/4 of an inch is the difference between a $1,000.00 set of headers and a nicely bent piece of stainless steel garage art! I'll pick up a set and see what happens. Proof once again that this forum has the answers to things you never even thought of.

    Q? About Motor Mounts

Thanks Yellow! How much higher will the coupe mounts raise the engine? Where can I find a set?

    Q? About Motor Mounts

Do the stock convertible motor mounts set the engine lower in the chassis than the coupe motor mounts? The reason I ask is that JR over at Kooks Headers told me that I may need mounts from a coupe (he said that convertible mounts are lower) to raise the engine and thereby increase the...

The lowdown on vert top motors

The brushes are in the electric motor. They are designed, as most electric motor brushes, to wear down over time. Electric motors are pretty basic and have very few moving parts. Changing the brushes is an easy fix. This is most likely not your problem as there are more vulnerable parts...

The lowdown on vert top motors

You're going to have to test every part of the electrical system piece by piece. I found everything to be in order but the motor would not turn when power was applied. This was frustrating because it did not fail every time. I just about ordered a new motor (big $$$) when I decided to open it...

First time slip with new combo

First stop on the Hot Rod Power Tour was the Gainesville Raceway. They had the track open so I took a shot at it. Here's how it played out: 60' 2.204 I blew the tires off it on the start. Had to back out of it and let the wheels hook. 330' 5.828 1/8th mile...
