All he said is that it has the stock 5.4 stroke and a 96.6mm bore size. Oh, and it's bigger on the outside than the 5.4. A lot bigger. It's like the difference between a 350 and a 454 Chevy.
The next Cobra R comes out in late 07 as an 08 model. It'll look pretty much like the GTR but it will have a totally different motor-the all new 6.2 big block 4v modular from the 07 F150. Hp is said to be in the 580 flywheel range. Nobody knows anything more than that right now.
I hope this new GT-500 is actually fast. The original was a high 14 second pig. A Mach 1 back then with the same motor would put a serious ass whooping on it.
Just get another V6 tail pipe and weld or epoxy it to the car. It'll look like dual exhaust. It won't do anything to help the sound, but there's absolutely nothing that'll do that.
The special edition will be called the Ghia. It's features will include a body colored landau style vinyl top and 18" steel wheels with simulated wire wheel covers.
I'm getting the auto simply because you can't race a manual car while talking on the phone, eating takeout, and holding a 1liter Dew. Plus I already have a 5 speed 3rdgen Z28 and Isuzu Impulse(it wasn't easy to admit that).
They went with the live axle in the GT because the IRS adds 100lbs and the car was already a pig. There's a higher drivetrain loss with IRS too, so not only would they be adding weight they'd be taking away power.
Nobody will know for sure until it comes out, but the Mach 1 is pretty close to the 05 GT in power and weight(on paper anyways) and it has beaten the GTO stock for stock in 2 different Pontiac magazines. Here's the latest one if you care to see...
