Did u pull the tank ? I remember u saying it had like 5 year old gas or something in it ? Might be kind of rough on the motor to go to a cruise with 5 year old gas...
There's a tool you can pick up at any parts store. Its designed to go into the fitting and release the clips which attach to the line.
personally, I like the small plastic/metal tools (metal is better). THe scissor style stinks.

that collar on the steering shaft can be on there real tight. I found it easier to remove the two 9/16" bolts that hold the steering shaft to the collar, rather than removing the collar itself.
Its easier to remove the collar once the rack is out.
