What style tire should I use for my Stock 1967 GT 390

fwiw ... WSW tires were optional, so it's a good bet that the car had them -- particularly since it's a GT as the GT package included Wide-Oval Sports tires (F70 x 14 perhaps) .... the 205/70R14 should be a good size match .... however, there are variances among manufacturers wrt actual diameter...

    Steering box slop

fwiw .... I did just that many, many years ago (circa 1975) .... I had excessive "play" in the wheel and tightened up the mesh screw just enough to get most of the slop out -- but not all of it .... improved but not perfect .... lately I've replaced the box and rag joint .... speaking of the rag...

    8 inch traction lock rear

fwiw .... I'm running a Detroit True-Trac and a 3.55 R&P set in the 8" .... just love this setup with a T5 .... the True-Trac works well for modest to robust engines .... and there is no "clunking" during turns .....

Automatic Left Turn when applying brakes?

OK, thanks for the extra info .... I forgot about the internals of the distribution block, so my bad on that .... that may be the cause but if those are bad, I would expect fluid to leak out around the switch ??? .... well, we can conjecture all day long .... I agree (fwiw) with your next steps...

    Window Alignment

+1 .... you have to get inside the door frame to gain access to all of the adjustment bolts .... the window guides move in-out (left-right) and it's a fair amount of trial and error .... the shop manual does address how to do this ..... if you had to replace the vent window/frame unit then you...

Automatic Left Turn when applying brakes?

interesting problem .... extreme pulling to the left as you describe is likely due to no or little line pressure at the right-side caliper ..... but since you said that you rebuilt that caliper and bled the system means that you should have had lots of brake fluid flow to that caliper -- corect...

One Wire Alternator with MSD Ignition

believe WTFO is on the right track here .... don't think the kind of alt (one or ext reg) should make a difference .... what I think is going on is a problem in the ground path return to the battery negative .... the MSD may have gotten hot because it was carrying other load returns to the...

    '67 steering wheel question

well, "expert" is questionable .... but here's what I know or at least have evidence for .... the '67 steering wheel dish has three spokes and a padded center hub (to make a larger hole in your chest in case of frontal impact!) .... I'm looking at a showroom brochure and all pics of the steering...

    Vintage Air or Classic Air

are we sure about that pricing?? ..... Summit does sell the 551198 evap kit and calls it a complete kit for $780 -- but the VA catalog calls this the evap only kit and it lacks compressor and controls .... Summit also sells the 951168 kit for $1335 and that is the complete Gen IV SureFit kit...

    Magnaflow 2.5" system drones!

decided to append to this existing thread, but there many other threads all more or less having the same theme ..... I hope this will move the discussion away from mufflers to tailpipes and branch resonators (or other resonators -- please comment with your experience) .... or this may fall into...

Short cam life with new oils

fwiw ... I mechanic friend who also does my heavy engine work, etc. told me about this exact issue ... now, what he says is that since the industry moved to roller cams for almost all production cars, the oil that is now sold is not what it used to be back when when most of us ran tappet...

Your experience with aftermarket a/c units ....

Nice time to be thinking of a/c in winter before the holidays and all, but I want to plan updates for next year. High on my list now is a/c. Had it with hot, black vinyl in August!! Anyway, have seen a couple of postings here and there on aftermarket a/c units. Before I plunk down some $$$$, I...

What do you think of this T5 Ratio?

you could go for that tranny if 1) it's in good repair now and 2) you're not planning on high RPM launches, etc (aka "abuse" - drive it like you stole it) ..... most new T5z's have a .63 5th gear, but you could order special final gear if needed .... I have a moderate built 302 with a T5z, 3.55...

    Gear ratio

you have four things at play here ... one is the rear ratio, the second is the trans output shaft speedo drive gear, the third is the speedo cable driven gear and the fourth is tire size .... I would first see if the rear ratio can be determined by jacking up one side of the axle (jackstands and...

How KH factory disc brakes compare to modern/aftermarket

ditto to what Chepsk8 says .... SSBC makes a retro Aluminum caliper that replaces the OEM KH units fwiw .... I have the original KH's on my '67 and they work great .... one note, whilst you're doing the rebuild, get stainless pistons from SSBC or some other vendor .... the stock ones will...

    monte carlo bar size

fwiw .... went back and found an old thread where two of us measured 40 in -just in front of the shock towers where the bar would install (mine is a 67 FB, but should be same for CPE) .... inward movement is possible due to age and pounding of the front-end .... if you have a MC bar, jack up the...

    Slight electrical problems
