    AOD Flexplate question

    In looking for a flexplate for an c-4 to aod swap, I've run accross specs from some vendors indicating a 11.5 inch bolt pattern and others 11.4 inch. Are there two different 164 tooth AOD flexplates or just sloppy measurements?

    Granada Rotor Issue

    I recall that problem when I swapped Granada rotors onto my Cobra many years ago. As I recall, I purchased a large machine washer (1/16th" thick) that slipped onto the spindle behind the rotor and that cured the problem.

    Tilt-away question

    My 1968 frequently won't start unless I pull hard down on the steering wheel while turning the key. I presume there's some sort of safety switch in the steering column, but where is it and how do I get to it?

    `76 Mustang rear

    Early Mustangs with 6cyl. engines had 4 lug 8" rears. The bolt pattern was 4 x 4.5. Mustang II 4 luggers are 4 x 4.25. The axles are not interchangeable due to different bearing diameters.

    Electronic ignition module meltdown ?

    Someone probably left the key in the "on" position with the motor not running. I had that happen on a 79 Mustang but it was the wiring harness that burned. In this case, the wires proved stronger than the module.

    Oil Leak

    Steel spring pads?

    Poly would work better since it would reduce the flex problem of the rubber insulators considerably but would still absorb at least some of the road vibrations. When I installed a set of Stumpy's lift bars on my Ghia which eliminate the rubber insulator, the ride suffered considerably.

    Will these starters work with our smaller flywheels?

    I've had one on my Ghia for over a year now (manual tranny) without any problem whatsoever. Went through 7 regular starters in the year or so before that. As to flywheel ringgears: manual tranny = 148 tooth, automatic = 141 tooth.

    My final 2 cents regarding spacers: 1) spacing does affect wheel bearings. As Dano78 pointed out, on a light II under normal circumstances, the effect would be minimal, but on a heavier car, adding spacers can change the loads on the inner and outer wheel bearings, causing premature failure...
