    WC t-5 question

2.3 turbo t5s will fit into a v8 bellhousing. the only thing extra you need is a special pilot bearing. the 4cyl trans has a smaller diameter input shaft, and is rated for less power. considering a 5.0 will blow up a t5 anyway that was made for a v8, and i wouldnt do it

convertible, B springs, and C/C plates?

parts catalogs list the same rack and pinion AND tie rod ends for an 86 and a 91 mustang. what difference are you speaking of? do you know the alignment specs your car is set with? i wouldnt think id need the offset rack bushings with a lowering of only 1", but i was wondering about the...

    no headlights

i had that issue on an 88 turbocoupe years ago. i replaced everything imaginable. then i called the dealer and they told me it was a recall issue and the wiring harness in the steering column had to be replaced and was a fire hazzard unless replaced by the dealer under the recall. i dont know...

convertible, B springs, and C/C plates?

okay, i just got the 86 GT convertible back together after a full urethane suspension rebuild, 87 GT front brake upgrade, new struts and brakes, and ring and pinion/posi swap, and FRPP B springs. how likely am I to need caster camber plates? who has done B springs on a convertible before, and...

    Would you trade?

i wouldnt trade any type/grade rebuilt tremec for any type/grade of rebuilt t5. the confidence of knowing i have nothing remotely related to that factory trashbox is nice. others will disagree, but i say leave the t5s to the 2.3 fords and the s-10s where it belongs

    Front control arms stuck

i just did this this week to put urethane bushings in while i had it apart for lowering springs. i guess i am the only one who had the bolts just slide out like they were new...the biggest pain i had was being pissed that i had to unbolt and move the rack and pinion unit forward about 6 inches...

    maf/conversion

i bought used parts and a conversion harness. you can do it without the conversion harness if you got the pigtail harness from the maf donor car. its been years since i did it, but it was cake. do a tech search on here and corral.net, the online how-to is on one of these sites. i think its just...

    To anyone who has 3.73s

there isnt a tremendous amount of difference between 3.73 and 3.55 gears. what gears are you taking out? what transmission are you using? transmission first gear ratios will play a significant role. an automatic typically doesnt have the steep first gear ratio a manual has....and manuals usually...

    AOD to T-5

you can run a manual on an automatic computer and be fine. you can get problems if you run an automatic on a manual computer though. like i said, i ran my tremec 5 speed with both the original speed density computer for an automatic and then a mass air computer for an automatic. never an issue

Busted my T5, manual transmission advice is needed and greatly appreciated!!!

if im remembering right, when i was shopping for transmissions 4 years ago and was looking at the tremecs, there were two to choose from. one was the 3550 and one was the TKO. i spent the extra money and got the better one (higher torque rating and also higher cost). its a 26 spline GM style...

Busted my T5, manual transmission advice is needed and greatly appreciated!!!

my TKO was bought new around 2003 and has an 02 casting date on it. ive not had any issues with missing gear shifts or hard shifting. the shifter does feel a bit 'notchy', but it works fine. im still using the shifter that came in it. it was overkill when i put it behind the stock 86 motor, but...

What brand tools should i buy?

bang for the buck is craftsman. snap-on, matco, mac, etc are definately a superior product, but not woth the price to the do-it-yourselfer. i refuse to buy them just due to the price and the inconvenience of tracking the guy down whenever something breaks. i have always had craftsman stuff, even...

    AOD to T-5

i did this on my 86 GT, but i skipped the "blow up the t5 6 months later anyway" stage and went right with the tremec TKO. if youre using a stock used t5 and/or have anything peppier than a stock 5.0, consider that. you will need.... bellhousing with the clutch fork and bellhousing...

Nothing for puller to grab - pilot bearing

i had this same thing happen to me once before and i am trying to remember how i did it. if im correct, i think i took a hammer and small sharp screwdriver and worked it until i had a slit lengthwise in the bushing, then it slid out. i did that on something but i cant remember if it was a roller...

Stock 86 4 cyl tank to mech fuel pump?

i carbed my 86 GT and have dealt with this before. here is the scoop. ford lists the sending units as 83-86. to get your gas guage to work properly, you have to use that sending unit. when my tank baffle broke loose and was sliding around the tank, i took the whole tank out and replaced it...

Nothing for puller to grab - pilot bearing

old school guys tell you that if you get something the same diameter as the hole in the pilot shaft bushing (like an old input shaft), then fill the bearing hole with heavy grease and then push the shaft into the bearing hole, that it will force the bearing out. i never had any input shafts...

    is this a 7.5 or 8.8????

thats a 7.5 with what appears to at least be a decent gear ratio by the size of the ring gear thickness. im no expert on ford differentials, but it looks nothing like any of the factory 7.5/8.8 limited slip rears ive seen. someone else will know
