    Hissing Carb

My 1965 Mustang also does this. It has a Speed Demon 575 CFM carburetor. I just spent my whole afternoon trying to tune it correctly. I watched the Demon DVD and followed the instructions but with no luck. I have the loud sucking noise that you speak of. The base of the carb is flat, it is new...

    Engine Rebuildable?

Thanks a lot guys! I guess I'll take it apart and find a place in the area to check it out. Is there a way I can tell if it has been bored out before or a way to measure it and find out how much so? Thanks so much.

    Engine Rebuildable?

Well it was just I did not have the money at the time for a rebuild and he knew a guy with a complete 289 from another mustang. So I saved out some money and got the engine which supposedly was recently rebuilt for $700. So if I could actually rebuild this engine it would not bother me much as...

    Engine Rebuildable?

My stangs old engine was the original 289. I have since replaced it with another 289 from a 66. However I still have the old block and heads on an engine stand just sitting. The engine had lost oil pressure and I had not known as I did not have a gauge at that time and it obviously seized. My...

    Vacuum Leak?

I have been having a problem with my idle speed for a while now. Everyhting I have tried has not helped. And with my limited knowledge of carburetors I am at a loss. I have pretty much figured that it is a vacuum leak, I have tried the carb cleaner trick but really am not quite sure still. I...

    Idle Speed Fluctuates

I did not just buy the car. I have had it for 2 years now. Ran it back and forth from highschool for a year then the engine seized on me because of loss of oil pressure and no oil pressure gauge. Since then have purchased a 66 block 289 got it all running using a lot of parts swapped from other...

    Idle Speed Fluctuates

I have a Speed Demon 575 on my 65 and have been trying to get it running correctly for a while. Right now my engine idle speed will either be really low and will die or it will go up to 1500-2000 rpms. I think it is my PCV valve though as this is something I had changed recently. I am also...

    Idle Issues

Do you have an electric choke? Maybe it is not functioning correctly? When you play with it do you mean you hold the gas a little until it warms up?

    How to cut the dash?

I cut mine, however it was already hacked up a little and rusty. I sort of followed this guys site: http://www.jedi.com/obiwan/jeep/wagoneer/stereo.html Not a stang but the same idea.

    Installed Aluminum Radiator

I will take off the carb and replace the gasket then...Should not be that hard and great if it fixes things! Should I use gasket sealer on the carb gasket?

    Installed Aluminum Radiator

Do you mean like a hunting idle rpm? Because the tach needle will go up and down and eventually settles on 2000 rpms. I just sprayed the base of the carb on the drivers side where it connects with the intake and the car sputterd and died with a bunch of carb cleaner. I tried snugging the four...

    Installed Aluminum Radiator

When I bought the rebuilt engine it did have aluminum pulleys and when I got it running I read about underdrive pulleys. So I took the water pump pulley off and put it up next to my original water pump pulley and the original was actually a larger diameter so I put the old one on and have used...

    Installed Aluminum Radiator

It seems I have a similar situation as you iskwezm. It will slowly rise in temp until 180 and the t-stat will open and it will stay around 190-200 then slowly rise. It stays at 200-210 going 25 mph and maybe a little lower at 50 mph but have not gone that fast for more than a few minutes yet...

    Installed Aluminum Radiator

No I did not cut the support. The fins however seem to fit rather nicely in the opening. The tanks are on the sides if that makes a difference? Are fresh rebuilt engines supposed to run hotter? Because this one has just been rebuilt. I will recheck the timing today. Then I'll mess with the carb...

    violent shake when taking off

My 65 did this before also. And one day while driving to work there was a loud boom noise from the tranny tunnel. I got it to work and home at about 10 mph but could not get up my driveway which has a slight hill. When I pulled the bellhousing off black burnt pieces of my pressure plate fell...

    Installed Aluminum Radiator

Ok first I turned the idle screw on my carb until it would run without my foot on the gas, so now the screw is in more than it should be I think. Then I sprayed all around the base of the carb and then into it. And nothing happened. Before when I would spray into it the engine would slow down. ...

    Installed Aluminum Radiator

Thanks for all the replies. Yes I had replaced the thermostat with a 180 degree piece from autozone. I thought maybe it could be defective and I should get a 160 degree high flow or something and spend a little more. Yes I do believe it is a bigger than stock radiator at 19"x22". I will try the...
