65-66 CUSTOM MADE FRONT COILOVER SETUP IN PROGRESS

I would think if it's a street driven car you'd want to keep as much suspension travel as you currently have. What about a longer shock setup to go to the lower control arm, similar to TCP's? You'd end up with a better motion ratio and it'd handle the bumps better. I'm interested in your upper...

    65-66 leaf springs

Glad it worked out for you. That sawall kick back can be a b*@#h...I was cutting my strut rod mounts for some an adjustable set and I think I went through 3 more blades. Good thing I buy in bulk.

    65-66 leaf springs

I cut the nut off the inner end with a cutoff wheel, then on the head end, cut between the mount and the spring. I pryed the nut side of the mount out a little and pulled down on the spring to get it out. It probably would have been easier to cut between the spring and the mount on both sides...

    65-66 leaf springs

I had to cut mine off with a cutoff wheel and a sawzall. Put the sawzall in between the spring and the frame brackets and went to town. Three blades later the bolts were toast and the springs were out. Next time (which will be soon on the wife's 66 coupe) I'm using a torch:eek:

'Click' sound from front suspension during braking?

red, I had a somilar problem and "click" from my fornt end with a 1 1/8" sway bar. Found out later that the sway bar and strut rods were touching/clicking as the suspension compressed & rebounded. I still have to fix it, especially with the adjustable strut rods compounding the situation.

Estimate on cost of changing to 5 speed

It's easy enough to do. It took me 2 days to figure out why the housing wouldn't sit flush though. Felt like an idiot when I figured it out:nonono:

Estimate on cost of changing to 5 speed

Barnstang, heres a pic of a side by side. the left is the factory "notch" and the right is the one I literally just ground out.

Estimate on cost of changing to 5 speed

I'll have to take some pics to explain it better but here goes... if you have the tailshaft off and look inside, you'll see the cast boss that holds the overdrive gear shaft. On 94 and newer T5s this boss has an additional area milled out to fit the "oil slinger" (technical term?? or s.w.a.g.)...

Estimate on cost of changing to 5 speed

nugget, I didn't have to cut the floor pan to clear the shifter so that was nice and the clutch fork comes out lower on the bell housing so it doesn't aim right into the headers, also a plus... The biggest problem I ran into so far (since i only just finished the hyd. setup yesterday) was having...

Estimate on cost of changing to 5 speed

Tail pipes would hit valence...Am I forced to use turn downs?

Dude, your right up the road from me...I'm in Pennsauken. You going to the Cooper River show tomorrow?

Tail pipes would hit valence...Am I forced to use turn downs?

Hopefully with the right blade there won't be too much filling involved but I will clean it up. If the cuts come out well I'll mix up some paint and airbrush the edges so there's no bare metal. I actually have a spare old rear valance so I might mock it up and test cut that one. I was going to...

Tail pipes would hit valence...Am I forced to use turn downs?

I'm going to use an air powered reciprocating saw with a fine tooth blade and lots of masking take to protect the surface. Hopefully that'll minimize any paint damage. worst case I take a spare valance and cut it an paint it to match. Still have 2 unopened quarts of paint left from 12 years ago:p

Tail pipes would hit valence...Am I forced to use turn downs?

I originally had Flowmaster 2.5" tailpipes on my 66 but recently switched to Pypes 2.5" tailpipes. The flows sat down below the valance with chrome tips. The Pypes come out where GT pipes would exit threw the valance. I cut them short and will probably notch the valance similar to a 67 GT panel...

little Sticker Shock on Cost of Paint Job

Sad, the guy's sister and brother in law live 2 houses down from my parents. I always keep an eye out at holiday's and family get togethers so I can have a "friendly talk" with him....:fairyfight::chair: I started working at a few restoration shops in central Florida and learned alot (good &...

little Sticker Shock on Cost of Paint Job

I paid $6000 12 years ago for paint and body work on my 66 coupe. I was suposed to get new quarters, lower door skins and fender patches and a replacement trunk lid, and down to bare metal. I got the car back with a week to look over it and load it on a trailer for Florida. About a year later...

    Southern NJ Car Shows????

Definitely don't miss Merchantville's show. I go every year (it helps I'm only 5 block away) and the whole town closes down. One of the biggest local shows I've seen.
