Pondering 351 Heads For My 289

Eventually you are probably right, but that could be 2 or 3 years down the road, so let me rephrase my question. What kind of horsepower gains could one expect from swapping the factory 289 heads to 351 dooe heads with my current setup?

Pondering 351 Heads For My 289

Hi all, I have a pretty much stock 289 c code in my 67 coupe. When I got the car the engine ran too good and did not smoke for me to mess with it, so I simply did a mild tear down and put in some new gaskets. Money was a HUGE issue at the time and just didn't have it to spend on the motor. It...

    Speedometer Issues

It probaly is in the speedo, but it wouldnt hurt to check those items you listed first (at least it's free). You may have a poor engagement of the speedo cable at the transmission driven gear. I had a cable get a small fray that made it act really funny.

    289 Re-build W/ Gt40 Heads - Need Suggestions

If you rebuild the bottom end back to stock specifications (maybe a little taller piston to keep the comp ratio around 9.5:1...your machine shop can help you there). Take those re-worked heads and do a light port / polish job on them. I would say a 270 ish cam with .490-500 lift (if you are...

    Power Steering Question

My pump is silent, it don't even whine when its full left or right...maybe I'll sell it cheap when I finally convert to a power rack this fall, lol.

    Power Steering Question

Like mentioned above, when I was filling my system I had the engine running. I would add a little fluid and turn the wheels back and forth, add a little and turn the wheels again until it was full. Also as Rusty said, do this with the wheels off the ground...especially if you have a drop bracket...

    Power Steering Pump Puking...

I figured out the problem, and I do have the drop bracket in place. Dumb ol me was filling up the reservoir when it was cool....once the pump got hot it was spewing it everywhere, I finally got an accurate Hot reading and it has been great since.

    Power Steering Fluid Spraying Everywhere

Make sure you are getting a HOT reading when you check the level. I "filled" my pump up when it was cool and it would spew it out every time...i let it get hot then checked the level (after it had puked a shot of fluid out of it) and it was still over the full mark. I wicked me about another...

Engine Turns Over Slowly And Unevenly

You have bad wiring somewhere it sounds like. Maybe you should unhook all of the wires from the starter and bypass them with some fresh wires from the solenoid and see if that does any good...maybe one wire at a time.

    Power Lock Options, Keyless?

I really would like to upgrade my door locks to power/keyless entry, mainly for the sake of not getting a key anywhere near my shiny new black paint, also for convenience. Probably go ahead and put an actuator on the trunk as well. I want something that works and not something cheap that will...

    Picking Out Leaf Springs?

4 1/2 mid eye is what I have, it lowered my rear probably just a little bit more than an inch. I got the grab-a-track brand. I put some 620 springs out front and cut 1/3 of a coil off of them and now it is nearly perfectly level...26" from the top of the fender lip to the ground.

Engine Turns Over Slowly And Unevenly

Sounds like timing to me...like The Dude said...just a slight adjustment there can make a huge difference. Try turning the distributor counterclockwise just a tad (i think counter will retard the timing, not sure off the top of my head).

Summit And Other Performer Rpm Air Gap Intake "knock Offs"

Get you a 4 hole spacer, that will help too. Aluminum is the cheapest, but wood or phelonic (plastic) is better. I'm in Louisiana and have the same brutal humid heat, I don't have any issues, but I also don't have any congested roads to travel, not sure what your driving situation is. Make sure...

Summit And Other Performer Rpm Air Gap Intake "knock Offs"

I don't have the air gap but I have the knock off version of the performer rpm. I can't really tell you if its any better or worse...my car wasnt really built for high performance, but reliability. I have had it on for two years now and it has been great. I got a polished version for less than a...

    Disc Brake Options.

When I installed my brakes it was a huge difference over the drums...the kit I got was power but I didn't put the booster on right away. I drove it around till I got another free weekend and put the booster on and it was another huge difference..it didn't stop any better...but it was a lot...

    Funny Leafs

Looks like a load assist leaf...the PO probably put those on there to help keep the a$$ of the car in the air instead of buy new springs.

    Careful Of Incorrect Torque Settings

Sounds like my uncle wrote your trusty restoration book...he wanted to tighten everything 5 to 10 lbs over the manual...until one day he tightened the rod bolts an extra 10 lbs and the oil couldn't get in the bearing and lubricate the journal properly and blew up a motor...

    306 Ford Racing Crate Engine

I have no experience with this motor but I have been looking at it HARD. Its a good value and its from Ford. I can tell you that once u gear the rear to match that t-5...you will be all smiles when that 340 horses turns loose. My other motor I been eyeballing is the blueprint 347 with 415 horses...

    Soundproofing For Roof

X yeah I got Troy Landry on speed dial in case of a Gator attack! The stuff I used was the factory style dense insulation...more of a cloth than foam. It came in two pieces. My issue with the foam rubber stuff is that it deteriorates...glue it all you want but it can rot and fall apart and...
