Old cam, will computer like it?

My dad called me and said that the cam just had 292 stamped on the end of it....no other numbers. He said he will try to take it by a machine shop where he lives and see if he can find out the lobe separation. Got a new question....is there anything else other than the cam that would be...

Old cam, will computer like it?

I probably wont keep the cam if there is much overlap. I dont want to have tow it to a dyno to get it to run right. Thats why I was wanting to know if there was a cam with similar specs and a good LSA for the computer if I had to get another cam.

Old cam, will computer like it?

Ok, I had previously gotten my wires crossed with my first post. This cam is a not a solid flat tappet cam, so that is nothing to worry about. I talked to my dad last night to tell him to get me the part number so I will have that today. More good news, he said that it was a Crane cam so no...

Old cam, will computer like it?

You are exactly right about pretty much everything, vri. The motor has been taken apart and has been balanced not too long ago. Right now, the only thing that is assembled right now is the block (of course), crank, rods and pistons, I think that is all. It is sitting on a motor stand right now...

Old cam, will computer like it?

Well it seems to me like you are gettin the wrong feeling. Common sense says, dont buy something unless you need it. Likewise, if this cam would work with the computer, I would keep it. Why would I want to buy another cam if I dont really need it? Like I said, it ran like a champ when it was...

Now can someone suggest a cam that has about the same specs as far as lift and duration?

Old cam, will computer like it?

So in short, you are saying that a flat tappet wont work, and to get a roller. Am I understanding this right? If so, then no problem. I can get another cam for crying out loud....

Old cam, will computer like it?

Like I said before, I have the whole motor. It has been run and everything. I KNOW that the cam will work in this motor! My question is, will the computer accept it, let it run, blah blah blah. There are no clearance issues, no problems with the cam itself. Is there anything else I would need to...

Old cam, will computer like it?

Ok, another question....is there anything in the part number that would tell me what brand the cam is?
