    Take the midpipe with the cats right out and store it. Install an O/R (off-road, i.e. no cats) midpipe. Install the cutouts just ahead of the mufflers, with the bypass fork aimed toward the DS (drive shaft) so that they look like sleeve clamps.

    Why would it obviously be rubbing on the outside? If it is then either the car is too low, or you simply need to use a panhard- something every Mustang should have had from the factory anyway. As everyone knows, the '93 Cobra has the turbo coupe rear, and I had no issues using 255 DR's on pony...

    Usually white smoke means too much fuel in my experience. Or valve seals, but that shouldn't be an issue on [new heads?].

    If the car is primarily a track car, (and you're so concerned about bypassing the cats) I'd put the catted pipe in the shed and run an O/R pipe, then put the cut outs in front of the mufflers. That's where I've always seen them, facing in towards the DS so they aren't noticeable.

    Where is the rubbing? Inside, outside, or on the quad shocks? What are you using for springs? You should be able to run a 255 tire without rubbing, especially with the extra 3/4" of clearance that rear gives you.

    All I can think is that I did installed it wrong and there's some kind of draw from the horn or something- or screwed something else up during the install to cause similar symptoms.
