    Serpentine Belt: When to Replace?

Don't over analyze something so simple. Replace the belt with a quality one. Make sure the pulleys are clean and not full of crud, especially the crank pulley. Clean them with a plastic bristle brush or maybe a brass bristle, nothing more. Keep it simple. My 2 cents.

    Imrc options

If you're sure it's an actuator problem and you can't find one then you have no choice but to eliminate the actuator. You can either install delete plates or half-ass it and wire the existing open. I have a 97 and one of the cables popped off the rod in the IMRC plate. It didn't throw any...

    Replacement Cats?

I feel your pain regarding emission tests. Here in NC we don't have the sniffer test, just the OBD2 diagnostic check for codes. Don't know where you are and what type of test you have. Physical damage on the converters themselves shouldn't be a problem unless the internal brick is crushed and...

    98 cobra mod help

A tuner is definately worth the money as long as you put the right tune in the car. For $300-400 you can't even buy a couple of tires let alone a performance gain. From what I understand a 96-97 Cobra is pretty much the same engine but the computer was changed for 98 so a tuner would be great.

    98 svt cobra engine problem??

A rod knock is not good. You stated "it doesn't speed up when you rev it" You would hear it to some degree when engine RPM changes. Maybe the road noise/exhaust is louder than the problem under load. I would have a mechanic check out your car before driving it any more. Those engines are...

Having serious prblems with my 03 cobra

My last post had an error. If the relay fails I don't know that it runs the pump at high speed, probably not. I do know that you can run the car without the relay in there. Sorry.

Having serious prblems with my 03 cobra

I don't have a SC Cobra (wish I did) and I don't claim to be an expert by any means, BUT I don't believe you can put your car back to a factory tune with all the mods that you have. Don't know if the 2003 has the same fuel pump relay as my 98 but it's fail safe. If the relay fails it runs...

    High RPM is worse, HELP!

Hey Shoob, Haven't heard anything from you since you ran your car down the Zmax dragstrip here in Charlotte. You won't see me flyin by until I get some new tires. :) Now that it runs good again I realize my tires are crap.

    High RPM is worse, HELP!

Problem Fixed.!! Well, it seems the Chinese coils were my problem. The only things I replaced yesterday were the coils and the plugs. Since I've tried a couple different sets of plugs before, it had to be the coils. I was chasing a fuel problem all along and it turned out to be an ignition...

    High RPM is worse, HELP!

Got my new coils. They are made in America, not OEM, but it's worth a shot. I've eliminated everything in the fuel system except the injectors themselves. Ignition is the focus right now because it's easy to do. New plugs going in are trusty ole Autolite 764 copper. I'm not looking for...

    High RPM is worse, HELP!

Thanks wmburns, My new ignition parts will be here on Thursday. Sometime I overlook the obvious, but the almost new wires were installed less than a year ago. Just tired of chasing what I keep thinking is a stupid problem. I put the new Motorcraft wires on because the previous owner had some...

    High RPM is worse, HELP!

Installed a new fuel pump relay today and it clicks on around 3250 when the IMRCs are opening but the problem persists. I haven't checked the voltage in the trunk yet. The LTFT seems to be up to par, nothing out of the ordinary when I push on it. Because it's so easy I decided to check the...

    High RPM is worse, HELP!

I looked on Rockauto.com and they listed 2 relays. One was a normal looking relay that would be in the fuse box and the other looked like a solid state component with a huge connector. Wonder which one applies to a 97 Mustang...

    High RPM is worse, HELP!

Thanks for your response. From other posts that you've responded to It sounds like you know what you're talking about. I wasn't aware the car had a 2 speed fuel pump. I'm only able to check the fuel pressure in the driveway @ the rail. At idle it's about 28 and instantly goes up to 40 when...

    High RPM is worse, HELP!

I've tried everything to get this car to run right and still a huge lack of high RPM and a severe miss over 4500. New fuel pump new filter fuel pressure is at factory specs (40 psi) new plug wires new plugs MAF cleaned with the proper cleaner no vacuum leaks can be detected no CEL...

    Data logger

Does anyone know of a decent PC based data logger? I have a universal OBDII/USB interface and some freebie software but it will not record the data. My car is still running like crap at high rpm and I'm tired of messing with it. Thanks in advance, Steve

    High RPM Problem

Our cars have IMRC plates and electro/mechanical controls to open them. It's most likely it's an IMRC problem. It always seems to be the IMRCs. 96-98 Cobras are old, and the technology is obsolete. Mine still work, but not as they should.. Mine open at 2300, but they take a while...

    Cobra Oil

I think I would use exactly what the manufacturer said to use. The engineers test these things long before they reach the consumer. Of course Ford might just recommend a certain weight to reduce noise and could care less about long term damage. Who knows. Again, I would use what's called...
