HOW TO MAKE POWER BRAKES SENSITIVE

Beat me to it. If the 1" MC didn't work out, I'd get some pads that bite better initially. When I first went down the big-brake road, I was running the Wilwood Q pads and they were horrible. I could barely lock the brakes up. A switch to E pads and then BP20s and it felt like a different car.

    408w 185AFR setup...

I have the 408W/AFR185 setup and it makes 530HP/515TQ... driving it can be like ice skating if I put my foot in it too hard too early. Car runs 117MPH in the 1/4. Don't buy the choking your engine line. The 185s are much bigger than any ported stock head back in the day. Not saying 205s are bad...

Is there any point to running bigger wheels in the back?

It is for looks. It is actually bad for performance, because a 18, 19, or 20 inch rim is much much heavier than a 15 inch rim, and it's heavier where it really counts- out on the circumference. Remember that a wheels weight gets you three ways. You have to start it spinning, (and stop it...

    Energizer bunny...er I mean Cam

Sounds like this might be first time. Good for you for diving in. Just make sure to use the proper break-in lube on the cam lobes and use Shell Rotella diesel spec oil for the high zinc content to protect your cam lobes. You should have your engine all ready to re-fire on the first few cranks...

    New Patriot heads?

Well, they may be Chinese patriots. Err, comrades. Err, abused children working in dangerously toxic factories that sh_t on our planet. But hey, if it saves you a few dollars at Summit or Walmart.

    New exhaust installed (incoming pics)

I enjoy following along on your build. Nice car. Did you post why you went down to the 2.5" from the 3" setup? 3" too loud? I have the 2.5 Magnaflow myself and it is quite loud. Almost too loud around 2200 RPM, but id does sound excellent when I get on it.

Keisler 'Perfect Fit' TKO 500 in a '66

Here's why I can't buy the Keisler claims. When I installed my TKO600 behind my stock 351/408W, I didn't want to cut the tunnel either. I lowered the engine and trans into the car as a unit, installed the motor mount bolts, put the jack under the tail of the TKO, and it was hitting the floor...

    Brake issue

Probably time for a new master cylinder. They can internally leak, particularly when the o-rings are cold (think space shuttle), and fluid can bypass without building much pressure in the lines. Should be a cheap fix.

upper control arms - GW vs TCP (rod end vs. del-a-lum bushing)

I saw in their new catalog that TCP just came out with some arms that have a lowered crossbar, so you don't have to drill the holes at all and still get the increased camber gain of the the shelby drop. In other words, there are ears on the top of the crossbar for the bolts to go through the...

    New TCP Catalog/Products

Yes, I just received one too. I was careful- I don't think any drool actually made it on to the pages themselves. The catalog is very well done and they do appear to be adding some top-quality items to their lineup... Wilwood, Strange, Ring Brothers hinges and those hood pins. Clever.

    Braking it down...

Do you own a Mity-Vac handheld vacuum pump? They go for around $50 and it's a worthwhile diagnostic tool to have around anyway. By attaching to the wheel cylinder bleeder, it will allow you to draw brake fluid all the way from the master cylinder. If your MC is good, (and it was before you...

Body work is done. Like a Phoenix, my car has risen from the ashes (modem burner)

Jerry, it looks great. I like the grabber blue. I can only imagine the costs involved with getting all that stuff to Europe. The accident was a blessing in disguise, for the car at least, given all the rust issues. Black out that pinch weld and keep posting finishing shots.

    need advice on proportioning valves

Rusty, it is the proportioning valve. The residual valves are usually in the port on the MC body, although I have heard some earlier cars had them in line. I'll post a scan of my shop manual when I get chance.

    need advice on proportioning valves

D., you are probably describing the distribution block, which is a brass block with several ports on it for MC in, Rear line out, and usually two front lines out. It was just a means to route fluid. Some distribution blocks also have a little shuttle valve in them to trip the brake warning light...

    need advice on proportioning valves

4 wheel drum cars don't have proportioning valves. The balance is achieved by varying the bore diameter of the wheel cylinders and the leverage aspects of differently sized drums.

    need advice on proportioning valves

SSBC now makes a distribution block that has a built in prop valve. for about $100. You can go that route, or just tee in a generic prop valve from Wilwood or Summit on your rear line circuit that allows you to reduce pressure to the rears until your fronts lock up before you rears in a panic stop.

    Braking it down...

Sounds like you need to bench bleed your master cylinder again. It can lose its "prime" and you'll have trouble pushing fluid until you bench bleed it again.

    Lowering my 69

My 69 mach 1 is 25-3/8" to the top of the front wheel arch, and 25-3/4" in the rear. It could definitely go lower visually, but I already rub somewhere in the rear fender wells over highway dips. I have mid-eye lowering Maier 160 leafs and Bilsteins back there. How does that compare to other...
