28oz. vs. 50oz. Crankshaft and Balancing Questions?

Thanks for the replies. I'll stick with the 28oz crank. Magnaflux, grind, and balance and I'll be set to finally put the engine together!

    Precision Oil Pumps

I totally agree. We discussed my engine build and oil system (basically a 7 quart T-Pan with max of 6,500 RPM and standard bearing clearances) and he recommended the 302 Race pump. He kept me from buying more than what I need and recommended the best for my situation. I got a lot of knowledge...

Personally I don't have any experience with the engine but it must be a solid build if FMS puts their name on it. FWIW Dallas Mustang uses this engine in the $40k Terlingua Mustang.

I'm not removing anything on the oil pump. I leave it to the expertise of the technician who assembled the pump.

28oz. vs. 50oz. Crankshaft and Balancing Questions?

I've already checked ring tolerances and everthing is within spec. I have also mocked up the pistons in the block. I'm not really sure what this means or what the benefit is?

    Precision Oil Pumps

I've had several events in the past that have persuaded me to never overlook the importance of a solid oil pump. After my first brand new oil pump failed, I purchased a blueprinted one with saftey wires from Ford Power Parts back in the 80s. They don't make them anymore but I did find a company...

28oz. vs. 50oz. Crankshaft and Balancing Questions?

Yeah, I thought about this for a long time. But for the initial power I will be making and the research I did, the nodular is all I need for now. From what I read, the block will give out before the nodular crank anyhow. Plus I got a lot more than what I originally set out for with the forged...

Stick with a street performance mechanical fuel pump that doesn't require a pressure regulator. Carter and Holley both make good pumps that maintain constant 6psi fuel pressure. If you want to do a complete rebuild, you should disassemble the short block and replace bearings and rings. If you...

    Rebuilding my 289

More power will just be a waste if your drivetrain is up to the task? Make sure your tranny and rear end can handle the power before opting for boost. You'll have over 300HP at the crank with the RPM setup. Besides headers, exhaust, and ignition, I'd get a limited slip rear end. You can get a...

28oz. vs. 50oz. Crankshaft and Balancing Questions?

I'm taking my rotating assembly in to be balanced next week. I have two 302 nodular cranks. One is a 68-70 28oz. crank, the other is a 50oz. from a 90 5.0. I have two SFI Steel flywheels. The 28oz. has already been resurfaced and is ready to go. The 50oz. needs resurfacing. I also have a new...

The 6A and 6AL modules are a multi-spark ignition that maximizes economy and power. It immediately smoothed my idle and throttle response on my stock A-Code 289. They also deliver a more powerful spark and allow you to operate safely at higher RPMs in modified engines.
