Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

Yeah, I just made an aluminum plate and epoxied it on from the inside.. not the most elegant (or reversible) method but I was in a rush to get the dash back in :D. I stop and wonder what I'm doing to this poor car sometimes.. after all the weight reduction I've done, ditching the smog...

    a/c delete

More or less.. you may want to take your car somewhere and have your system discharged first. Then you'll need a fuel rail/ac disconnect tool to get all the lines apart. You have to pull your radiator to get to the condensor.. then yank everything out and throw the delete kit on. You'll lose...

Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

The cowl vent is a round hole covered with a mesh grill inside the cowl chamber.. I'm not talking about the cowl grill (the black plastic piece on the hood). Sorry for the confusion. Anyway, all the air that normally goes into the cowl chamber will be doing the same thing it always did.. but...

Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

Looks nice.. do they sell those somewhere (maybe they'd have a pic of it installed)? PM me and let me know what you're looking to get for it.

Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

I'm not sure why it would need a cover.. air blows in there all the time anyway. What's the difference if it hits a sheet of aluminum instead of a plastic door?

Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

How does it attatch to the firewall? You have any pics of it (on or off a car)? I might be interested.

Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

I'll post some pics later today. I'm just going to rivet pieces of aluminum over the holes in the firewall, and the cowl vent is raised so no water should get in.. I'm not going to worry about it.

A basic free mod check list

It is a vibration absorber, but it's tuned for the stock gears, so once you swap them out it doesn't do its job anyway. Some people will tell you 10 lbs.. but mine was rubber and weighed about 2lbs, if that. Maybe that was an ssp dealer option :rlaugh: EDIT: and aside from that, dead center...

    Removing the HVAC unit

I just ripped my dash out and completely gutted all the hvac stuff today. Took about 3 hours to get everything out.

    whys my car so slow?

A bad tune, valvetrain geometry issues.. have you done a compression test? What length pushrods are you running? Also you may want to bump your timing a bit, try 14* and see what happens. If you're still running stock injectors with that h/c/i combo, you're just asking for lean problems...

    whys my car so slow?

How's your traction? Have you been to a dyno, if so what's your a/f curve look like?

    Size tires for 17" wheels???

A 235/45/17 will work fine for the front on an 8" wheel. Generally you want to stay within about 2" between the tread width and wheel width, so a 255/45/17 would work fine for the rear. Some guys will tell you they run 275's on an 8" (or even 7") wheel with no problems, but I wouldn't drive...

    Size tires for 17" wheels???

Well 9.65" is the tread width.. the sidewall width will be a little narrower, and most tires are actually a bit undersized anyway. A 245 does look a little funny on a 9" wheel.. looks perfect on an 8".

Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

None of the hvac stuff is going back in. I've had no a/c and no heat since I bought the car so it's not worth having all that crap in there for just a vent. So far I got about 30lbs of plastic out from the front of my car.

Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

Got it. It was getting hung up on all the vent plumbing bolted to the back of the dash skin. I'm gutting all of the hvac equipment now.. there's so many plastic boxes, tubes, hoses, vacuum lines, and gadgets back there it's scary!

Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

Yeah those are all out.. I can't find any more screws, but it feels like it's still held in there pretty good. I must be missing something..

are hatchback/coupe rear seatbelts the same?

I just pulled mine out.. they say "must. sedan" on them, so I would imagine there's a difference. EDIT: sorry, just went and looked again.. the fronts say that, but not the rears. I'd say it's worth a shot. But if you never use your belts, and no one sits in the back, why worry about...

Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

I'm stripping my car, painting the interior, body, and wheels.. and I've got everything out but the dash. First I thought I would just remove the skin from the dash frame.. about 30 torx bolts later it still wouldn't come off. Then I figured I'd just pull it out frame and all, and I pulled the...

    Size tires for 17" wheels???

I ran 17x8 wheels with 245/45/17 tires all around on my 89 with no clearance or rubbing issues. That was with eibach prokit springs.

    Size tires for 17" wheels???

245/45/17 is a stock height tire (25.68"). 245/40/17 is a full inch shorter.. you may like that on the front (or need it for clearance, if your car is lowered aggressively), but you wouldn't want it just in the rear. Also if you put a shorter/taller wheel in the rear your speedo will be off a...
