    It is a ported set of factory heads. They are ported with the intention of keeping good port velocity and volume. They have limits but are good bang for the buck IMO. I personally think it is cool to go fast with stock stuff.

    If you do try it, you need at minimum the piece that plugs into the back of the radio. Any haynes or chilton manual can tell you what color wire goes to what termination (power, left, right, ground, etc).

    The stock shifting pattern on a C4 is PRND21, not 12D. A valve body change can mod it to 12D. To see what any car would be like without OD, just drive around in 4th (5speed) or 3rd in AOD. With 273's it wouldnt be too bad for a 45-1.5 hour trip. Expect MPG to be in the 15-18 range (guess).

    What the others have said is true. 3rd gear in most auto's is 1:1 and so is 4th in most manual. The little bit of slip by the converter is apparent and lowers the trap rpm by approx 500. We also have to take into consideration the trap MPH. Possibly the stick is trapping a little slower.

    Try turning the motor over by hand (ignition off) to ensure that nothing is in a mechanical bind. Take a look to see if there is a meshing problem. You should be able to see some damage if there is a mesh problem.
