    Media blasting

Rat Rod Black. It is tempting to start assembling. That way I could free up some room in the garage. The really amazing thing is I haven't done any body work yet.

    Media blasting

Black epoxy primer except inside where it is bare metal. I'm going to coat the inside with rust encapsulator.

    Media blasting

Did you have them paint it as well? JD told me about another Mustang they did about a year ago and after media blasting it was brought back for the paint. I just checked the left over media. It sparkles like sand. I think they told me they would use walnut for the paint removal but sand for...

    Media blasting

I just picked up my 67 from Street Rod Factory in San Marcos, CA. I had them strip the paint and rust and then primer most of the surfaces. I don't know if they did the whole car with just sand or some combination lighter media and then sand for the rust. There is still sand in many nooks and...

Where to find MC from JMC hydraulic clutch?

I have a JMC kit I'm not using. PM sent.

How much to ask for 69 mach 1

I looked at an H code Mach 1 yesterday that was probably built within a few weeks of this one. It was built in NJ and sent to Boston and it's unit # was 218xxx. This car is now in San Diego and was described as a "rust free, Calif car". Upon a quick inspection I found major rust in the trunk...

    Hybrid Engine in '67 Mustang?

At the last autoshow here in San Diego I saw a 2007 Mustang and a Cobra kit car that had been converted to electric. The motors they used were rated at 1000lb/ft! Quoted 0-60 time was less than 4sec! http://www.evworld.com/article.cfm?storyid=1408 The cost? $80,000 to convert your car!

    Should I buy new bumpers?

If you're going to sell the car buy the repos. If you are keeping it get the originals rechromed. I've had repos show rust in 1 year.

    Modular motor or rebuild

I'm currently in the middle of installing a 4.6DOHC in my 67. I'm not doing it because it's easy. I've done the simple swaps and wanted a challenge. This is not an easy task. EVERYTHING has to be modified. Elecrtrical, fuel system, exhaust, cooling, HVAC, suspension, sheet metal, gauges...

    modern 6 spd??

The 5spd auto in my 96 explorer used the o.d. gear twice to gain an extra ratio. I think it went like this: 1st, 1st + o.d., 2nd, 3rd and 3rd + o.d. This gives 5 unique ratios. The idea was to keep the engine in it's power band while accelerating. I don't know if the 5spd auto in the new...

    competition engineering subframe connectors

I added stringers (or jacking rails) to my 67. They added very little. Look at my thread about torsional rigidity testing for pictures and details. Page 3, posts 60 and 63.

    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

After a quick search I found the estimated weight of an all iron 460 to be 720lbs. The iron block DOHC (with supercharger) was 700lbs. This means with aluminum heads and intake the 460 would lighter and narrower. Probably very close to the DOHC with aluminum block. Maybe I'll put a 514 in my...

    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

You probably lost about 65lbs (40lbs in the heads and 25lbs for the intake - isn't that about what you said you lost over the summer?). That would put the 351 very close to the 289, maybe 10lbs under.

    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

420lbs sounds light but it's hard to compare without knowing exactly what is on each engine. With the Iron block my DOHC weighed 700lbs. This included AC, PS, Alt, intake with supercharger, flywheel (Al), starter, exh. manifolds, motor mounts and a few misc. hoses that were still attached. I...

    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

\\ I used the Dart 8.2" deck block. Originally I planned on IR fuel injection but the engine builder talked me out of it. He said the Webers were easier to tune! If I could do it over I would buy a kit from TWM and use Megasquirt to control it. I have this habit of weighing almost...

    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

Fun street car but mostly it's a creative outlet. I build therefore I am. Emphasis on handling (hence the IRS). Runt66: I've added about 100lbs not including the x-brace or export brace. I realize I'm at the mercy of Newtonian mechanics and polar moments but with the 4.6 DOHC and IRS this...

The Reenmachine DOHC '67 Shelby Clone Convertible Progress

That's quite a compliment considering they have a "real" 1969 GT500 convertible for only $250k! Edit: I just noticed they also have a "real" 1968 GT500KR for $585k.

    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

More test I'm back at it again. I decided to make a new export brace that should act more like the orginal. As 66Runt pointed out the round tubes with heim joints can only support the load along the axis of the tube. Although I belive this triangulation is where the majority of the improvement...

    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and found myself with time to kill. I should have stopped by to see in person the work you're doing. Instead I spent about 6 hours at ORD. Maybe next time.
