    heat in a '88 2.3

OK I guess the older setup does not have an inline temp sensor located on the heater hose. Again I apologize for asking stupid questions, but I have have been burned by cars that did not start but were simply out of gas because other mechanics who were on site earlier didn't check the basics...

    heat in a '88 2.3

OK good so you have the higher thermostat in there. OK lets check a few things. - 1. After running the car for a while, are both heater hoses warm, is only one hose warm, or neither? - 2. If one or both hoses are good and warm, please check and see if you have a sensor on one of...

    heat in a '88 2.3

Sorry dagenham, removing the heater core is a big job on a Fox with A/C. I'm just covering all the basics first before we look at more complicated issues. You do have factory A/C right? What temperature thermostat are you using? Is there a computer sensor attached to one of your heater...

2.5 duratec engine swap on fox body

Find a 7.5" rear with 3.73:1 gears. You will need to change your speedometer gear too. The 3.73 gears will be 100 times easier to install and it will give you the off-the-line advantage you need.

This never happens - Good luck in junkyard

My '92 2.3L was originally an automatic and is now a 5-speed. I did not change the computer. The car drives fine. The only downside is when I hit the clutch with the cruise control on, the engine revs high so I make a point to turn off the cruise control before dropping down to 4th gear.

    wireing problems

Its hard to say where the smell was coming from. After I got the switch out, it clearly smelled of burning insulation but to be honest, so did the wiring harness in the column. The wires were a bit cooked/discolored near the switch. I suspect both the wires and the switch were both burning but...

    MPG question

Yes city driving in Harrisburg, PA. As far as I can tell its a stock non-limited slip 7.5" 3.73:1 rear from the original A4LD setup. With the T5, I now can chirp gears and burn rubber. I don't expect much better mileage than the mid 20's with those gears but I will keep tweaking her. As...

    heat in a '88 2.3

Had the same problem on my 85 2.3, I could never get warm heat in the winter. Flush the heater core. Remove both heater hoses from the engine side and hold a garden hose tightly up on one end. Flush in one direction till it flows clear and then reverse and flush till the other heater hose...

88 mustang 2.3 Lx questions. new to mustangs

My old 1985 notch-back had an LX badge on the trunk and it was a 2.3L 4-speed manual. To be honest, "LX" means nothing save that the Mustang is not a GT, Cobra, or SVO. I purchased a 92 LX 2.3L with a A4LD just like you did. My '92 has factory 3.73 gears. I pulled the leaky A4LD out...

    MPG question

Measuring Now My last tank came back at 14.161 gallons over 297.6 miles which works out to be 21.015 miles per gallon. Mind you, this last tank-full was driven with a bad coil pack and bad ICM so I was running only on 6 plugs not 8. I will report my mileage on this next tank-full. My 92 2.3L...

    1979 2.3L Mustang

I had this problem with my '85 2.3. Make sure the screws between the throttle plate and air horn are tight. They are famous for vibrating loose. Take off your air cleaner and grab the carb with your hand tightly then try to move it. If the carb has play, 90% of the time its the base plate...

does a 1988 mustang lx 2.3 have front and rear sway bars

I didn't have one either on my '92. An '88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe had one at my local junkyard and now I do have one in back. Perfect fit... :nice:

    Tach problem

Heat Shield The heat soaking problem on the rear coil pack, for those who have a stock exhaust manifold, seems to be a serious enough problem so I decided to post the images of how I solved the problem. If I spare one of my brothers from suffering coil failure, it's worth it. Some of the high...

    Tach problem

UPDATE Thank you Everyone in this thread. :nice: I replaced ignition control module, packing it with fresh conductive grease, and the car went from firing on 6 to 7 plugs. This one replacement also fixed the tachometer problem and the check engine light. AGAIN THANK YOU!!! :nice: I then...

    Transmission problem

Starter plate I had this problem and resolved it when I swapped the automatic to a 5-speed. The previous owner hit something that bent the starter plate where it protrudes near the lower starter bolt. The starter plate was warped and needed to be gently hammered flat again. Did your notice...

    this car just needs help

OK the first thing you will need are good wiring diagrams. I recommend the Haynes Service Manual for the Ford Mustang 1979-1993 and Mercury Capri 1979-1986. The stock number is 36050. Familiarize yourself with the wiring diagrams in the back of the book and then try to find a friend with a...

    Tach problem

Update Excellent call Delray Dude. As predicted, two of my cylinders are not firing on the rear pack. :nice: I just removed, cleaned and reinstalled the O2 sensor so it is OK. I decided to swap the coil packs to see if the same two dead terminals would move. Well the two dead cylinders...

    wireing problems

Recall There was a recall on the directional, wiper, hi/low-beam switch. I had problems with my 85 mustang. Same problem with burning smell. I installed a new one and had no problems after that. I am waiting for my 92 to develop the same problem. I know it will unless the previous owner had it...

Need help identifying Vacuum hoses '90 2.3L LX Convertible

I checked my car I have a 92 but most of these should be very similar. I will head outside and take a look. BRB [walks outside] [opens hood] [returns] OK this is what I found. Compare this to your own vehicle: 1. Is attached to a red plastic line to the EGR EVR solenoid that...

What happened to the 2.3 Stangs?

I just joined the club I purchased my 92 2.3L three months ago and converted it from automatic to 5-speed. I plan to fix her up and keep driving her daily. I am with you brother. :flag:
