    You posted this while I was pecking. As you can see, please don't do it at all. The upgraded cable is a necessity. I would not even start a 3G car with the stock charge wires (even if I was standing there and going to shut the car off 5 seconds later).

    What is the actual voltage fluctuation (measured with a DMM)? The regulator is likely to be the issue. You can take the alt to be bench tested if you want.

    The location varies. It's best to get it work, turn it on and listen for it. Keep an eye out for the HVAC blower, radio, wipers, etc not functioning at all times (when they should). The TS's, along with any of those, can indicate that the ignition switch is going south.
