    SHELBY COBRA CONCEPT thread

After the Cobra Datona Coupe dismantled Ferrari in '65, Ferrari didn't field another front engine sports car in any racing class. The only reason that the Cobra didn't win the world championship the year before was a rules loopole.

    '05 aftermarket/mod speculations in here

The usual mods, underdrives/exhaust/intake plus a chip to remap the cam timing could produce some gains, but a low pressure blower will probably net good results. The stock intake and what not looks pretty good in the pictures... so I don't expect a big gain from intake tubes and the like.

    Front Suspension

rhumbline I agree, 50/50 is perfect for the enthusiasts, and I expect the SVT version will probably hit that mark with ease.

    Front Suspension

A nose heavy car will understeer while a tail heavy car will over steer. Toyota MR2s, Acura NSXs, and early Porches are know for this tail happy dynamic. To explain it, think of the car a pendulum with the front of the car hanging from the ceiling. If the rear of the car is heavy, then...

    The Complaint Department

Miatas can hold there own on a road course or auto-cross, but I agree the Z3 was a much better car. Then again, the Z3 was really an MG. BMW "borrowed" the design from MG in the early 90's. As for the price of cars, they have followed the price of all other durable goods including houses...

    The Complaint Department

The Thunderbird was definately a dispointment in the performance department, but the '05 appears to be on target performance wise. The Thunderbird has already been canceled, according to Car & Driver. They might produce them for another year or two, but there doen't appear to be real zeal...

    Why the confusing names?

The Cobra probably might be a seperate model from now on. Ford can use the Shelby, Boss, Bullitt, or Mach to designate the hopped up Mustangs. Heck, who knows... but it sure is nice to discuss the possiblities.

How long will the new rerto Stang last???

This Thunderbird is really bizarre in the way as it mirrors the original. The original car was too heavy and required a supercharger to be competitive. It also didn't last long as a two seater. Ford made it a fourseat luxury/sport to really get sales out of it. If it were up to me I would...

How long will the new rerto Stang last???

The Beetle stayed in production from the 1940's until 2003. It was the most basic transportation type car since the Ford Model T. The Beetle's saving grace was its simplicity and economy. It was stone reliable and was one of the first cars to achieve over 30mpg. The original Beetle had about...

    It's Official

I like what I see. The styling is exactly what I expected, production type changes. The main concern for me was the rear suspension, and it looks like Ford did a good job. I was praying for a three link with a Panhard bar and springs acting on the axle. That is as close to independent as...

    Concept vs. Production photos

I agree. The differences between the concept and the production version seem to be necessary for the "real world" type changes. 1. The hood and front-end changes are possibly aerodynamic in nature or required to fit that hi-rise intake on the 3v. 2. The rear window and quarter panel windows...

    5spd auto

Supply and demand. The T-56 is a desirable commodity so it rates a highend price. If it were a mass production item then the cost would drop substantially. Most Fbodys came with the four speed auto. The same can be said of IRS. If all Mustangs were equipped with IRS, then the cost would a...

    The Complaint Department

A few thoughts on fuel tanks and fuel fillers... 1. The fuel tanks on 60s and 70s vintage mustangs was also the trunk floor. Thus there was no seperation between the tank and the interior of the car. This is a severe fire hazard. If any damage occurred to the tank, then gas was introduced...

Things we don't know about the 2005

Nothing wrong with the prop rod. The struts tend tend to lose pressure after a few years and they add weight. Speaking of weight, the less techno gizmos, the better.

Hot Rod /Motor Trend Threads In here

I agree. The V6 may actually provide more prifit per car than the GT, but the GT creats an image that sells V6 cars. They work hand in hand.

Fords new way of measuring HP

The 88 to 93 5.0's are pretty much identical with the exception of the hypereutectic(read cast) pistons. I have seen dynos of the 92, 93 and 94 cars and they are pretty similar. They all put out about ~195hp at the wheels (~225 HP at the flywheel). The drop in horsepower was a marketing ploy...

    5spd auto

The five speed auto sounds good. I can't think of another car under $30K with one. Hopefully the Gremlins have already been worked out by the stint in the Explorer. A six speed manual would be nice, but it is really not necessary for the 3v 4.6. It has ample torque and will be fairly...

    6 cyl 200 to a 302...possible?

Do you plan on driving this car? If so, you would probably replace the suspension, brakes, and steering components anyway. Yes, it is time consuming and expensive to build up a car, but if you do it right it will work out about the same as restoring an original V8 that is in poor condition...

More info on the 4.0 V6?

I agree. Everyone in the automotive industry laughs at both of these still being in production. GM gets more out of theirs by throwing superchargers on them... basically the same setup that Ford used to put on the old Thunderbird.
