    2001 Temp hot

Poor choice of words on my part, there is far more to it than just the tolerances. I stand by what I said though, a 180 degree thermostat will produce more wear than a stock thermostat will. The difference may be marginal but, it is far more drastic if you go colder than 180 like say a 160...

For those with aftermarket temp gauges

I would stick with a Motorcraft thermostat.

For those with aftermarket temp gauges

Another thing that may explain the high temps you are seeing is with the location of that plug. Modulars are known for cooling inefficiencies around cylinder 8 which is close to where that plug is so that may explain the high temps there. I think the important thing here is to establish what...

For those with aftermarket temp gauges

There is a trade-off you have to consider when going with a colder thermostat. These motors are designed to operate in a specific temperature range. When you change that range you change the tolerances in the motor. You may see some performance gains with a colder thermostat but, you will...

For those with aftermarket temp gauges

Here is a post from a thread on this issue at Modular Depot. Seems like possibly your temps are in line with his. He also has the sending unit installed in the same plug. Keep in mind though that he has a 180 degree thermostat so he may be running a tad cooler than you...

For those with aftermarket temp gauges

I am assuming you are talking about the plug in the block on the driver side?? That is where I plan to place my sending unit. Those temps seem kind of high. How many miles do you have and has the coolant ever been flushed?

    2001 Temp hot

I probably would start with the thermostat, it is cheap and personally I would go back to the stock heat range. On a stock motor you really aren't going to see much of a benefit going with a 180. People tend to forget that these motors are designed to operate in a very specific heat range...

    2001 Temp hot

Why the switch to the Fluidyne radiator? Were you having the overheating problem before and this was an attempt to fix it? Is the rest of the cooling system stock? Are the underdrive pulleys your only other mods?

    Powder Coaters near Upstate, SC

Hey all, I am about to get a set of MM sub frame connectors and Kenny Brown jacking rails installed. I ordered bare steel MM subframe conectors but, they sent me powder coated ones instead :nice: I figure I will go ahead and have the jacking rails powder coated as well. I know they...

    FRPP catback

The mufflers might possibly be the same but, the pipes on the FRPP catback are 2.5" vs stock 2.25". The FRPP catback does sound different than stock but, not by much. Personally I don't think there is enough of a difference to justify the price. I have a Magnaflow catback and at idle it isn't...

New brakes not feeling like it's braking much

How exactly do they "feel" worse? Is it pedal feel or do they physically not stop the car like the OEM pads did?

    fuel Filter question

Here is a good set from Sears for $9.99 that will work on both AC and Fuel lines. You can get a much cheaper set at just about any auto parts store that will work just as well...

    #*^%!#*(%@#!* Weedwackers

Here is a good site for getting touch-up paint. They also have instructions on how to apply. The nice thing is you can get the paint in several forms like a touch-up pen, traditional brush, spray cans, etc... http://www.paintscratch.com/

I directly linked to the image on Alldata, looks like that didn't work. It should be fixed now. What repair manual do you have?

    fuel Filter question

My 2001 was built in October of 2000 and it has the spring release type safety connections. Here is an image from www.alldata.com on the 2000 GT fuel filter, looks like it shows them.

Went from 3rd to 2nd on the highway.....

This is the kind of advice I have problems with. Geez people whine about how hard it is to get warranty work done and how dealers rip you off yet any chance people get to rip the dealer off they don't hesitate.

Went from 3rd to 2nd on the highway.....

I may be out of line with this comment but, you are aware that your warranty does not cover missed shifts. Hopefully no damage was done but, keep an eye out for new ticking or pinging type noises.

    Rear end girdle problem?

Some covers do hit the the sheetmetal in the trunk where the spare tire sits. Take a look there and you will probably see that it is dimpled from the cover.

    Body Roll

The tires are waaayyy to wide for stock 8" rims. You are likely getting a lot of sidewall flex. Look at the specs for any tire manufacturer and NONE of them recommend putting anything wider than 255 on a 17x8 inch rim. Here is a link to the page for that tire. Click on the Specification...

    Synthetic transmission fluid

Personally I would stick with Motorcraft Mercon V in your 4R70W. While the Amsoil ATF is probably good, it is a universal fluid meaning it meets a lot of different specifications. Mobil is also supposedly working on a new version of Mobil 1 ATF that will be Mercon V compatible but, it will...
