Need suggestions and advice on modding a 351w

To me, where to go first depends on what he starts with. If he starts with a 351w with high compression that runs great (no smoking etc), then keep that and go from there. If he has to build his own engine and/or the 351w he ends up with has low compression (be it because it needs a...

    Flowmaster choices

Get the delta flows, definitely want all the help on resonance you can get. Not sure what the 'Super 40' series are, they sound more like the originals. I know the Delta Flows were specifically designed to cut down on resonance. also... inbe4rustysaysthebestflowmasterisnoflowmaster :D...

    Dipstick for T5? Stop leak?

if i wanted to, in an effort to slow the leaking, go with a conventional fluid instead of the fancy synthetic i have now... is it okay to mix the two?

    Dipstick for T5? Stop leak?

My T5 has been a leaker since i got it (seems I'm cursed to own nothing but leaky transmissions, my old C4 leaked like a sieve too). Filling it is a pain... I have to get a long hose, jack the car up, and remove the port on the passenger side to fill it. Is there a way to install some sort...

Need suggestions and advice on modding a 351w

In an 89 GT that probably would be a 12 second motor :)

Need suggestions and advice on modding a 351w

The 351w stroker will make more power, you can ditch the idea of the 347 making more right now. The 347 will have slightly better weight balance and less weight (perhaps making more effective in certain types of road racing/autocross etc), but alle lse being equal a 393 will always make more...

(I think) Timing chain issue... might explain dyno/starting/timing issues..

haven't had much time recently... made an offer on a house last week (very, very busy week heh) and spent the weekend backpacking in yosemite. while i was gone my dad put the carb back on (after we messed with the floats and jets recently) and its ready to be fired up, again. no real reason to...

(I think) Timing chain issue... might explain dyno/starting/timing issues..

nah, i do have the vacuum MSD, but i've been pretty good about disconnecting it when trying to time it (though i've forgotten a few times).

(I think) Timing chain issue... might explain dyno/starting/timing issues..

Swapped carbs (both rusty's holley and my brothers edel 500), didn't make any difference. Not that it makes a difference in the meantime, but I re-jetted my carb (71 primaries, 76 secondaries, up from 65/68). Floats weren't stuck, fwiw. Haven't checked the distributor lockout yet. Plan on...

    66 Coupe 302 vs 351W

Have to get the backspacing perfect though. I had some serious rub issues all around with 225 60R15s w/ 3.75" backspacing. Even rolling fenders didn't quite get rid of it, I had to return them and get 225 50r15s eventually.

    66 Coupe 302 vs 351W

I think a 351w should be mandatory in the 67+ cars. In the 66, the limited traction capacity for the car (without tubbing) should be considered, as should the weight balance and ability to change plugs etc. I tend to think that, if you're going to spend the money to do it right, a 347 is...

Maybe I'll just use it then, it'd be slightly less work than yanking the one off Alex's car.

(I think) Timing chain issue... might explain dyno/starting/timing issues..

I think we still have the stock/standard bushing & spring combo for now... wanted to get it timed before messing with that since right now its impossible to tell how much actual initial or total timing I'm running. Have not verified the advance isn't locked out. Will do soon.

In my back seat still. I think we decided if we're going to throw on a random carb we'll use an edelbrock because we've had more luck getting them to plug-and-go.

(I think) Timing chain issue... might explain dyno/starting/timing issues..

I have the 35-246-3. We moved the spark plug wires over one (CCW) and then wrestled with it for about 2 hours, didn't make a whole lot of difference (other than a huge hassle trying to find where it ran again). We had to restab the distributor about 30 times... and when it finally ran...

(I think) Timing chain issue... might explain dyno/starting/timing issues..

Pretty sure thats the 302 firing order, not the 351w. 351w and 5.0 HO are what i wrote, what you wrote is the old school 302/289 firing order. fordmach... going CCW (unless my memory is even worse than I think it is...) edit: got it all back together last night but the battery is dead, so...

    TRANSMISSION HELP!!

LOUD NOISES!!!. RABBLE. RABBLE RABBLE!!. (no need to type in all caps :D ) To be helpful... A 2500 stall won't engage at exactly 2500 rpm for all engines. Its dependent on the torque your motor makes at that rpm. Engaging somewhere in the low 2000s sounds right for a 2500 stall, so...

(I think) Timing chain issue... might explain dyno/starting/timing issues..

Before you put the new #'s on, was your timing pointer pointing to 0 at TDC? My balancer has 3 sets of #'s, one of which matches up to my pointer at TDC. I would think this wouldn't be a problem if your pointer lines up with 0 but I guess theoretically just lining up at 0 doesn't mean they're...
