Emmissions Woes, is toluene the answer?

:D garden hose? I'm surprised you even made it to the test station before it melted. If it works it works though. Yeah, I went in with no cats or anything and failed pretty badly. The limit was 0.8 and I scored a 3.9 for hydrocarbons, CO2 was just a little over. I've called pep boys...

Emmissions Woes, is toluene the answer?

The air pump is still on the car, just the tube that runs down to the cats is missing. I am planning to put the tube back on before emmisions time though -- or rig something up. I was just looking for a way to bring my levels down a little further with the gas. As far as the line that runs to...

    THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION

First grab a beer :D , then pull out the #1 spark plug. Put your finger in the hole and turn the engine (or have an assistant do this) with a ratchet and breaker bar. When you feel air pushing out you know youre on the compression stroke (where you wanna be). Now stick a screwdriver or...

Emmissions Woes, is toluene the answer?

no, 5.0guy had it right, I just need the pipe that runs down to the H. I'll have to go see if I can find some tubing, maybe I can clamp it with a hose clamp and some rubber hose or something. Not really sure how I'm gonna seal up the hole in the h pipe after I take it back off though. I've...

Emmissions Woes, is toluene the answer?

I'm gonna have a couple of cats welded in this week to try and pass emmissions before they suspend my plates, my main problem is that I dont have the air tube that connects the smog pump to the h pipe. I tried getting a couple of shops to rig something up but they all tell me they can't do that...

    Electric Supercharger???

I saw one of these electric superchargers on ebay and I just had to ask, has anyone ever tried one of these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33741&item=7912026184&rd=1

What do I torque the balancer to????

I usually just crank mine till its really tight with a ratchet, I dont trust my torque wrench in the 100 lb range, cranking it that hard can throw it off when you want to use it later. As far as boiling it goes, people do that because it expands the keyway (while it's hot) making it easier to...

    Newbie Welding question

Thanks, thats what I was asking. I've used oxy-acetylene for cutting before, it was pretty easy to make holes - maybe I'll stay away from trying to weld with it. If I did get a MIG welder, would one of those smaller 100 amp ones work OK or would I have to break the bank for a larger one? And as...

    Newbie Welding question

my car currently has a shorty pipe with cats on it, but they are hollowed out. If I buy some replacement cats it shouldn't be any more than cutting the old ones out and welding the new ones in. And they have LOTS of clearance from the bellhousing, I'd have to be off by about 2-3" to screw that...

    Newbie Welding question

with the longtubes, the cheapest I can find a shorty h pipe is around $360 without shipping - at least with cats anyway. plus it'll only be on there for a day, someone must know how to weld exhaust on here though, it cant be that hard.

    Newbie Welding question

I went to a few local shops to see what it would cost to get cats put on my stang so I can go pass emmisions by the end of the month and they all ended up telling me around $500 or so. I saw some hi flo cats for sale on ebay for $40 a peice and I looked into getting an oxygen and acetylene tank...

convertible seats dont recline any way to make them?

In the convertibles the seats are made so that they can't go down past the armrests in the back. You can make them go all the way back, but you have to remove the seatbelt loop thingies from the sides of the seat. You have to pull the seat out and look at the mechanism by the recline handle...

Car running really rich, Help with codes?

I thought the smog pump only kicked out a small amount of air, so I figured it wouldn;t make that much of a difference. I should only have to hook the pump down to the H-Pipe though, right? The hookups on the back of the heads are for when the engine is cold -- or do I have that backwards? MAybe...

Car running really rich, Help with codes?

Thanks jrichker, I couldn't find that info anywhere. Even my Mitchell on Demand program wasn't much help. I've got one more question though. I got the TPS set where I wanted it like I mentioned above. The car was idling at about 1100 RPMs. Then I tried unplugging the Idle Air Bypass valve and...

Car running really rich, Help with codes?

Went for emmisions the other day, got a 3.9 on the hydrocarbons -- 0.8 is the limit. So the car is running really rich. Right now it is set to 12 degrees BTDC for timing. So I decided to start by running the codes. When I first ran the codes I got one for the Throttle Position Sensor being out...

    Anyone good with stuck bolts?

thanks for the help, but I just took it back to them and they sent it back to the manufacturer as a defective part. Best part about rented tools :D

    Anyone good with stuck bolts?

Yeah, the main problem is trying to keep the end with the slot in it from spinning. Can't seem to budge it just using a screwdriver.

    Anyone good with stuck bolts?

I rented a balancer installation tool the other day from the Auto Parts store. There are two parts to it. One big threaded rod that holds the plate installing the balancer, and a smaller threaded rod which gets threaded into the nose of the crankshaft to keep it centered. After reinstalling the...
