    73 mach 1 build thread

    Nice project you've got!

    The Project

Way before we bought the 73, we wanted to find a 68 Firebird convertible. Never found one for a reasonable price though. Then when we bought the Boss last year, we thought about it again. Still nothing reasonable though-but the Boss is a pretty darn good "instead of", lol. Nice Camaro, looks...

    Where Is Your Stang Going?

We're building Eleanor to be a streetable cruiser. We are putting in a cage, after seeing a 73 tore to heck (someone here, a few years back-semi VS Mach Vs guardrail) we decided to go for it. She'll be track legal then too, should we want to run her. 347 stroker backed by a street/strip c4.

    Eleanor Update

Ok, by now we had fully expected to be driving Eleanor on weekends. Not so. *BUT* we *FINALLY* figured out the problem. The crank and the torque converter don't fit together. I know it seems like something you would notice pretty easily, but they do fit together to some extent-enough for it...

Are you gonna drive the 'Stang even though the gas is $$$$$ ?s

Well, now that we *FINALLY* know what the sam hill is causing the motor/tranny in Eleanor to disagree, we will be driving it once it's all together regardless of gas prices. ;) I didn't build it for the gas mileage. Of course, it's not the DD, but all three Mustangs will be driven whenever...

Slightly faded clear coat, not peeling, how to restore the factory shine?

Funny I just did a paint resto a 98 too-low miles, but I don't think they ever washed it. Here's my "formula"-this takes some time though Wash Dry Claybar Paint Cleaner Polish Wax I prefer Meguiars products, but Mothers also has good products (or so I hear). Clay will pull out...

Mach 1 BAD Mach 1 Wreck in NY

http://www.wgrz.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=57722 They are listing it as an 02, but from the news coverage I've seen, I'm 99.9% sure it's actually an Azure Blue Mach (or was an Azure Blue Mach).

    Worst products you ever used.

Oh yeah, that reminds me- Megiuars professional line, engine kote. SUCKED. Didn't coat evenly, looked like crap-glad I used it on the DD instead if the Mustang.

Keep My 65 Or Go Late Model

Lol, I wouldn't dream of leaving my 2000 in a parking lot unattended, but wouldn't worry about Eleanor. Funny how that works.

    1972 good idea?

Well, you've probably made your decision by now, but I'll add my .02. Big bodies are going up in value. When we bought our 73 in 02, we paid less than $1k for it, delivered to our house. It wasn't in great shape, but I've seen them in worse shape going for over $2K on Ebay. Make sure your...

Keep My 65 Or Go Late Model

In the end, you have to search your heart for the right answer. But, from someone that has both a late model and classic, here's my thoughts. We bought my car, the 2000, before Eleanor (the 73). At the time, we had a 69 Falcon futura stationwagon that was in 90% original condition (I mean...

    "Rehoming" a car

I think we've discussed this before. Your family was a bit east of me, I'm near the Falls. We just really want this cr to go to someone that's going to fix it and drive it. The last time we drove it was out honeymoon, when we bought an 89 Forumula Firebird (long since traded in!). At this...

I will never be done with my car.

Ahahahahahahaha...money...ahahahahahaha.... We've done most of the work ourselves because we can't afford to pay for it. We've had a lot of help from friends too-the paint will be done for the cost of the paint. The motor was paid for by money from my business, which I do in addition to a...

    "Rehoming" a car

It's not a stang, but I thought maybe someone around these parts might be interested in a project (being this is the classics forum, and it's all about projects!) Actually, there's two, but my truck goes after the firebird, because we have a car trailer marooned in our yard and the truck can...

I will never be done with my car.

I hear y'all! Eleanor's been dubbed "the forever restoration". We have an unoffical club locally, The forever restoration club because there's a group of us that have been working on our classics (not all stangs) for years now. We bought her in November of 02, and she's still no where near...

Question for car buffs in New York

It's true. The registration should say transferable on it-cars w/titles have non-transferable registrations. Our 69 had no title, our 73 does.

    Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer

I think that's just the NXT stuff repackaged. Smells the same to me anyhow. I like the original better. And I wouldn't use it on filthy paint, but light dirt is what it's made for-to become the lubricant between the dirt and paint, just like car wash soap...

    Worst products you ever used.

Funny, I use the Meg's QD all the time. Of course, my car is garage kept, so maybe that helps, but I use it pretty much every time I drive it. Meg's cleaner wax. I used it once because it came free with the clay kit. It's not a bad product really, but you can't replace the 5 step process...

    tire shine

Meguiars Gold Class Endurance. It's a wipe on, not a spray, so it doesn't get anywhere else (I *HATE* when people spray stuff at shows and it gets on my car! No matter if it's made not to, if the wind blows, it carries). I put it on with an applicator, give it a minute or so to soak in, then...
