97 GT 3.73 gears good idea? worth the money?

Go with 3.73's, PI cam and PI intake. The stock tune will hold until you get it dyno'd. These three mods will give you the most "bang for the buck". The PI cams will work nicely with the new gears since the PI cams redline at about 5500 rpm compared to the NPI cams at 4500 rpm's, thus giving...

97 GT PI Heads good idea?

:stupid: Best bang for the buck, min. work.

    PI Cams and Intake

This is a simple install IF you use and Anderson tool or the Ford tool to change cams. I did it and it was simple, but I took my time and re-checked and torqued everything. This is a very cheap mod and worth the effort.

Why Shelby? Building an argument for the Mrs.

If you can get an '08 Shelby GT for $43K, you are mad lucky. A soldier in my reserve unit works at a Ford dealership and he said the Shelby's run for $75K plus in CA (dealer markup). He said they were selling for up to $109K when they first came out in '06:jaw: Prolly not much cheaper elsewhere.

So I broke my sway bar yesterday... and ripped a control arm

That design is asking for serious damage. The swaybar prolly caught on something and busted the control arm, IMHO. Get a stock swaybar and you'll see how much higher it sits. That is a bad design as far as durability is concerned.

    pi cams on NPI heads

That should do it along with a torque wrench. However, you need to use the PI cam gear bolts since the NPI bolts are not interchangeable with the PI's. Also, don't forget to re-install the spacer behind the cam gear. It is a very cheap install if you do it yourself, (worth every penny!)...

    Question about 96 vert.

The tranny may give you problems after a while. I replaced mine four years ago. Otherwise they are fairly solid reliable cars. Get some sub-frame connectors installed to stiffen up your vert. Also, tour upper control arm bushings may be worn.

    what's necessary to lower

If you have creaking coming from the rear, you prolly need to check your upper control arm bushings attached to the differential. You should also inspect your upper control arms. I had the same problem so I replaced the bushings and UCA's since they appeared torn and worn and the creaking...

    choices for a newbie...

If you are going to re-build the engine, you may as well get the PI heads and intake installed. That way you will get 260+ HP. Also some 3.73 gears will wake the car up. I bought a used Bassani catted X from another Stangnetter and I love it: perfect fit, nice sound and improved power band.

Anyone with a lift in their garage?

Don't be a puss. Just get the lift and that's it. Do not ask for permission cuz women do not understand!

Suspension Comfort - What springs to get?

If the ride is killing you, you should look into some dropped front spindles. A manufacturer (Racecraft.com) makes them with a 2" drop. They are about $500/pair but it's cheaper than a kidney transplant! For the rear end someone else makes some pricey LCA's with adjustable spring...

    Bassani BX or BBK???

I have a Bassani catted X and I love it. It is a high-quality component: nice sound, excellent fit, and improved power from 1,500 to 6,000 rpm's. There is no contest IMHO.

    Need your opinions: PI heads+cams

The FRPP heads will also require the Bullit-style intake since the stock NPI intake sucks. The FRPP heads have round, NPI-style intake ports.

    First upgrades for 98GT A4?

Some good mods for cheap are PI cams and a PI intake on your stock heads. Used PI cams are around $75 and a PI intake around $175. The cams are easy to replace if you use the right tools and technique. Those mods are good for at least 15-20 horses and another 1000 rpm's. An X-pipe is another...

    Popping sound from rear

That was me. I had a similar situation except mine did it on curves and bumps. Turns out my UCA bushings on the pumpkin were shot. I replaced the bushings with stock ones and used FRPP UCA's, problem solved. BTW, buy the bushing install tool. Check your torque boxes too.

    Convertible Latch Adjustment

The hooks in the latch are threaded so you can adjust them by turning. You may need to adjust both sides to get an even fit. When you pull down the top to the windshield frame, tug on the frame but do NOT tug down on the latch handles. Also check the latches to make sure they are not bent and...

    My financial situation

I was in a similar situation when I was in College way back. IF the payments and insurance are killing you, I advise you to wipe out all debts including the stang and get what you want later. It sucks balls to be car-poor in college. Sell the stang, get a clunker and graduate with minimal...

    Rear end grind/clunk noise gone..

Some of you were complaining of your rear differential making metallic grinding/creaking noises when going over bumps or taking curves. Same here, so I replaced the upper control arms with the FRPP ones and the upper bushings attached to the pumpkin with new stock ones. It turns out the...

    Tuning a 98 4.6

At your mod level, a 91/93 octane tune will prolly suffice. The factory already tuned your car to run its best with 87 octane so you won't get any better performance with any other 87 octane tune IMO. I bought a used Hypertech tuner on this site for $75 and it worked fine. I'll get a...
