    Wouldn't backfire create an outgoing vacuum instead of positive pressure? Air is forced the other way, so that only makes sense.

    Service the IAC and the MAF. You can use carb cleaner for the IAC. But for the MAF, buy electrical cleaner from your local parts store. It doesn't leave a residue, so it gets a good clean. Try that and report back. Good luck.
