Progress Thread Hoopty v2.0 - It All Snowballed

It just does not have the comfort and quietness of a newer car. No Bluetooth, lane assistance, back up camera ect. Also the safety, we all have seen pictures of these cars in bad accident broken up, to many distracted drivers on the road now days. Also for me sentiment replacement, to have a...

Yeah...could not daily a fox no matter the powertrain. I have a 2014 F-150 that has 57K because I have almost always had a daily commuter. Your saving in fuel would almost swing a 20-25K car or I did for me. After my Cobalt Sport was totaled last fall by a careless driver. Driving the truck...

Black Jack: Now a little less of a rust bucket

Careful with the 0 weight oil. I would stay 10W-40, 10W-30, if you really need thin oil in colder north 5W-30. These pushrod Windsor don't like any of that new thin stuff. I also have noticed fluctuations in my gauge on my 92 with the "bell" style sender.

    Fox Brakes and Anti Seize..

Growing up on a dirt road and having a ag background. I have found antiseeze just attracts dirt and grit to moving parts creating premature wear. On the premium brake pad kits they give you a tube of grease and want lube those contact points where the edge of the pad contacts the bracket...

    2024 Mustang

When I worked for Ford in 2013-17, before I left in 17 on a buyout. I did the study in the department I worked in for the S650 program it was a minor program refresh. At the time it did not have ton of impact to our department, granted it was pretty early in study phases.

    Fox Brakes and Anti Seize..

My 2 cents. Have used antiseeze on pins with the rubber tips and like @90's described have had isses with swelling creating seized pins in my GM cars. In the midwest where they use salt some thing has to be used as the silver or zinc cad wears off you will experience seizing. I have switched...

Black Jack: Now a little less of a rust bucket

I hope you find it. My vibration transfered into the engine, it cracked windage tray and cracked oil pickup tube all before I found this problem. Last time the engine was apart we welded everything back together. This time everything will be replaced as it is broke again.

Break in oil in a Roller cam 302

Ohhh you threaded the front galleys! Nice! I have heard good things about "Driven Oils". Alot is to promote good ring seal. That's probably what I will use on my next build, I used Cenpeco Super Racing in the past but feel it does not have the addictive package that is truly required for...

    Thrust Bearing Wear

After a second look it looks as your thrust is misaligned. Only one half is showing wear. Some times the cap will need to be seated to allow proper alignment for both bearings as red notch stated a dial indicator showing end play may point you in a direction. Here is a example of decent...

    Thrust Bearing Wear

Nope not normal. You can see alot of debris ran through this bearing. Those dots near the bearing tang are evidence of debris embedded in the bearing either it was put together dirty or you have other issues. The thrust looks almost new or factory machining marks? Or is that wear too? Can't...

Black Jack: Now a little less of a rust bucket

I chased a vibration +70MPH for years with my car. After transmission replacement, converting to 5 including axles and new wheels. Finally took the driveshaft to have it balanced. Front yoke was junk even though it slipped in and out of the trans fine, they rebalanced the driveshaft. It was...

Cam bearing wiping, to change or not to change?

Looks superficial to me it is really bad only when a cam bearing starts flaking. I would bet that if you replace the next will do the same. Or it was ever so slightly distorted during installation. RUN IT!

Well after a price and lead time of a Dart block it just is not in the cards now. Besides cost and the 6-8 month lead time there is also reluctance in some of the block is the only Ford thing left besides the obvious architecture. Oh and the front cover and distributor. Anyway I picked up on...

Annual update... Car developed a rattle on a way to a car cruise last fall. After ruling out the rockers, I knew I needed to dig deeper a full tear down was in order, besides the short block has been together since 2009. I belive the rattle was cam end play that is now more noticeable with cam...

General, please put up some pics of your shop

With a 9K Atlas that we have at work I am planning for 13' for that 2 post with a top plate. I fully expect at times to park the Mustang on it in the winter and another vehicle underneath.
