So what is your 302 based shortblock combo??

It all depends on what your going to do with it. If your staying N/A. TRW,Probe,Dss are all good choices. The TRW's though require notching if you go to 2.02" intake valves with aftermarket heads. Even the K.B. Hyperutectic pistons are really good for N/A. setups. If you plan on any power adder...

Quoted 2,500 for a full engine rebuild!

If the guy is doing the pulling of the engine, and then rebuilding it, and then doing the install I think it is pretty cheap. You guys have to figure the price of a new crate engine, and then the price of the install. What would that cost you? What is the average price of a crate engine? I know up...

The grease trick works really well. I know I use it all the time. 351w heads on a 5.0?

These heads work but you must use the early years from 1969-1970. C90E-DOOE Castings. They have bigger intake runners and 1.84-1.54 valves. they also have 60 c.c. chambers. But they have lousy exhaust ports. To get anything out of them you must grind out the thermactor hump in the ex ports. If...

how many times can you reuse stock head bolts?

90 blue5.0 has the correct answer. Ford used torque to yield head bolts on 93 and up 5.0L engines and they have flanges under the heads of the bolts. You can replace them with the earlier head bolt design and use the early torque spec.

    Solid Flat Tappet?

I agree with dirt racer. I personally have solid lifter flat tappet cam. I only adjust my valves twice a year and they don't change much at all.As far as the lash is concerned. My car see's mostly street duty through out the year. It is not uncommon to see small blocks with milder solid cams...

Compression test results for 140k mile motor

The compression test is not useless. It just tells you that you have good compression all across the board. Meaning a healthy engine and the valves are sealing well. But the leak down test is a more accurate way to determine if the rings are leaking by into the crankcase. To do a leakdown you...

Compression test results for 140k mile motor

The dry compression test looks good. Now do a leak down test. This determines how much leakage you have going down the rings and into the crankcase. If the leakdown rate is acceptable then put on the blower. If the leakdown rate #'s are good and they are within 10% of each other you are good to...

The camshaft dictates the firing order. I you buy this motor you will have to rewire the injector harness to get the injector's to fire in sequence with the ignition firing order the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Non H.O. Firing order. Other then that it should run fine.

Is any one running low 13s with this combo??

I have almost the same combo. Except I have a Vortec shootout intake manifold and ported E-5 cylinder heads with Chevy valves. I went 13.40-104 m.p.h. On completely stock suspension with B.F. Goodrich radial T/A's. My 60' was a 2.1. With Southsides and ET Streets I know it will go high 12's.

    engine miss

You might want to test the cylinder pressure in the #2 cylinder. That is if you check out the injector first and it is ok. You need fuel, spark, air + compression to fire the cylinder. If everything checks out fine and you still have a miss. Just take a compression test. You could have low or no...
