    Clarification of IRS v. Live

Actually the case maybe reverse, the live axle does very well on a nice smooth track. And with the panhard bar/3 link setup and MUCH better weight distribution, *and* the extra TQ from the V8, the '05's should easily keep up, even outrun the E36's on most tracks. (Now the E46's are another story...

'05: why the 2 piece driveshaft?

It looks like the same 2 piece on my WRX, and like most new vehicles w/IRS. Are there any advantages having the 2 piece unit aside from NVH? It look like it will have a center load bearing that's anchored to a crossbrace (circled). It better be aluminum...

    POLL: New GTO

Make the exterior cabin a little smaller, add more distinct C qtr panels, and longer hood == 94-98 stang with 350HP and IRS and a interior/drivetrain that the SN95's should've had... GM has finally learned why the stang is so successful--so why not closely recreate it (no frills, good power...

    Exhaust--Whatcha gonna do?

I'm starting to think side exhaust placement would look really cool w/the retro look. Problem is it sounds like space between the wheels is just too maxed out already. Only other option is corvette-like center exit exhaust. With mufflers out the back, the cool side view of (polished) straight...

    Exhaust--Whatcha gonna do?

OK, we know the mufflers of the '05 are in the very back of the car now, like the imports. What would you do considering exhaust is usually the 1st mod for most folks.

    Focus Cosworth, RS

Yes we do :D (I'll be in that line!) What would be better is if they can keep the cossie layout (AWD) and for the US market, swap in that new 5.0 cammer engine as they have in the current Focus concept. Talk about sweet overkill  Hmm... Falcon XR8 anyone?

Why I'll wait for the SVT Mustang

Solid axle==cheap & very high strength. An IRS is not gonna beat it in that dept. I'm pretty confident the aftermarket will push the newer solid axle design to a level we've never seen. Imagine a solid axle stang with a longer wheel base, better weight distribution, wider track--hmmm...

Who has the highest spinning 302 (or stroked 302)?

http://www.dssracing.com/ Hmmm... if I were Ford and want import characteristics: Just convert over to a 4.6L Cobra motor. It's been done--guys have stuff 4.6's into a fox body or 94/5 body.... On a fox body a 4.6L is murder since the car is lighter (if it's a notchback). If your heart is...

Is it me or does that 2005 GT...

...look like it's a lot lower than the ones in the mag pictures? I'm talking about the red one Bill Ford drive into the scene initially... It looks slammed compared to the debut pics (?)--the spacing between the wheel arch and tire is like nil (18" wheel option?). I looked at it full screen too...

    5spd auto

Well in the real world Well, in defense of the Hot Rod guys, the WRX (I have an '02 stock) is very, very easy to drive fast--probably the easiest aside from an Evo or SVT Focus. Just mash the gas and it goes, no drama, no thinking, pleasant in some cases... And in sun, rain or snow to boot...

Guys with energy suspension motor mounts?

0 problems, feels like stock at idle, you can feel the engine on accel., which can be cool if it's balanced well ;) Good upgrade if you're old mounts are bad. Fit was perfect. Make sure you also get a tranny mount.

And the less time/amount of shifting! As long as the gears ratios are setup right to the powerband, you'll be faster with less gears/shifting. I can't imagine the 4 bangers w/6 speeds, all that jerking around shifting must be some type of training ;) BTW, the LS1/Vette/F-bodies are only the...

    Will we see a 2005 Mach 1?

Interesting, the 2 cars (GTO & 05 stang) are aimed at different markets and folks, but I think the car mags and folks like us will put them (as well as the vette, imports, etc...) in comparsion since the power and size is close... I mean we're already doing the STi's and Cobras and Vipers :)...

The key: Rental fleet sales ;) It will be interesting if Ford positions these 05's in the rental fleets, the current V6 actually blends in well as a rental. Can't imagine a whole bunch of "retro" V6s running around town. The tuner cars are going to rock, but forget about repairing them ;)

The look does wear on ya, and if you think about it, ford took a "throw all the old styles in the pot" approach (i.e. best in breed in corporate terms). Makes sense w/the global platforms... What I'm looking forward to is the better ergonomics, the interior, handling, and engine power. Looks...
