This is how it starts, inch by inch by inch slow and steady wins the race, actually this stuff moves pretty quickly, I like this project way better than the last one, ie priming the entire car because this project gives you instant gratification, I started the day with a rusty radiator support...

It's Not Rocket Science All you need is some safety and basic tools, angle grinder although an electric drill with a brush attachment will suffice. A pair of gloves and of course eye protection because THE WIRE BRISTLES GO FLYING EVERYWHERE, I was using either goggles or a full face shield...

It All Starts Here Standard operating procedure, I "allow" myself $100 bucks every month to spend on the car. If I ever spend more it's because I saved it from the month before or I robbed one of my kids piggy banks, (hey I told them a million times deposit that into your Roth IRAs, but do they...

    March/November wedding 60's tribute

As I earnestly try to catch up on this thread I see this guy has a vision, a detailed plan, serious metal working skills, and most important a great sense of humor. Scoot over everyone I'm getting on the band wagon! ... ah ***** he's from Alabama, lol, jk

Back To The Future some time later... ... dude that looks almost the same, yes but if you squint just right you can see that now the cowl vent area is primed, one drum is almost rust free, and what would be the wheel wells are clean(er) so it's time to do the front

Are you tired of this stupid car yet? Yeah it's me again, another month another project phase. Last time I force fed you some pictures, we were shooting primer on the car. Now four months later it's time to address the front end, front clip, engine bay, what ever you wanna call it. Yes this is a...

The Oil Pan Having plenty of better things to do, instead I decided to clean the oil pan. But dish soap and scotch bright was no match for the crusty ol' pan so the wire brush and the electric drill had to come out. The last picture shows half the gasket area all cleaned up and ready to go.

Flat Tapped Hydraulic Lifters The exercise in futility continued. I pulled out the lifters part number VL-67RH one by one and of course one is rusted, the others seem ok, or are they? First of all I finally learned there are four types of lifters. You tell them apart by what types of tops or...

    Best way to lift motor

Regular bolts but I double up on the washers, cheap insurance for the head of the bolt going through that soft harbor freight bracket material, if you could get a buddy to help it would be worth it, even a wife can work the engine crane up and down while you manaouver the beast into it's resting...

Cylinders 5-8 and here are the other cylinders 5 through 8, eight being the worst one, it has rust on the bottom 1/3 of the cylinder walls, the rings do not go down that low, so I hope cleaning off the rust and honing will bring it back to life, but all these things are adding up, one scratched...

    Best way to lift motor

I have the same leveler and it works great, especially if you are going to go at it alone, as far as where to bolt it down to I would go into the heads on the sides where the alternator and or AC accessories bolt on to, be VERY CAREFUL the chain won't snag your distributor as I see you still...

Pistons, Weddings, Texas & Time Well I don't know how you get your stuck pistons out, but here's what worked for me. After trying to tap it from the top and from the bottom whilst bathing it in WD40 to no avail, (yes I did use whilst, LOL) it was time to get serious. So I went looking for...

Why in the world would you assume the assembler shoved a broken ring in the motor, that is sick man, sick I tell you. Rings are cheap and I doubt they shoved a halved ring in upon rebuild, it is very common for rings to snap do to wear and tear, heating and cooling, sittin' an' runnin'.
