2007, the Mustang will have Competition, Camaro is Alive AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... and by the way - GM killed the Camaro and Firebird, not Mustang. GM did less than 1/10 the advertising that what Ford did, they did not produce the cars the customers wanted (quit making manual transmissions in April, for example) and did all they needed to make sure the sales were low...

2007, the Mustang will have Competition, Camaro is Alive AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

300 pounds less, much better airflow. As a Pontiac dealer put it a few years ago: "TA is for show, Formula is for GO!!!" Yes, they are both Firebirds, with similar options available, but as the old song goes "Little things mean a lot!" :o) Just proves that skirts, a ridiculous spoiler and...

    Throttle by wire?

Electronic stuff wears out over time, too. And it's not as reliable as mechanical connections. I'd just as soon stay with cable. There is a basic engineering principle that the more complex the system, the higher the failure rate. That is inescapable.

    Throttle by wire?

That's exactly what I was talking about. I believe it came up when a guy was stopped because he had his car "jacked up" above stock ride height. I remember it was in one of the hotrod mags I read. Yes, I know emissions are Federally mandated... I was talking about other stuff. I agree...

    Given Ford's track record....

Wayyyy more power and the option of a manual transmission... for those of us who can drive. I was amazed at how wimpy it was when I drove one. Turned me off immediately, even though the styling is great.

    2005 GT500 "Concept"

GT-500 would have a 400+ ci engine. (Original GT-500 Shelby was 427, which they don't make any more). GT-300 would be more like it.

    Throttle by wire?

No unemployed legislators yet. I have heard that some states - I believe I remember Mass., among others - have actually made it a crime to modify your own car from factory specs, and they are citing people for "incorrect height" and other nonsense. Any first hand info out there????? :shrug...

And now... a completely hypothetical question...

"Frankly, I think Bill Ford should take Mercury out back behind the barn and put a bullet in its brain. It's a drain on Ford and I can't recall many memorable cars in its history. It's a redundant brand and deserves to go away like Oldsmobile and Buick." Buick hasn't gone anywhere. They are...

    auto or manual fastest?

Sorry.... no. There are NO "performance advantages" to a trans that is more complex and uses fluids to replace direct mechanical connection. In the hands of a competent driver, the manual is ALWAYS faster. Key word in the above "competent". 99.99% of drivers do not qualify for that word.

So I got bored (another photochop)

That is a "tinted and banded windshield" like the original Mustangs had as an option. It is to help the driver see better in bright sun, not for looks, so the "looks" are irrelevant.

    Car of the year?

I agree - gotta remember: Car of the Year is decided by guys who think "If it ain't Aisian, it ain't c**p".

    v6 2005 - Don't Laugh

Actually, there's nothing "wussy" about a V-6 Ponycar. Mustang or competitor. My daughter drives a V-6 Firebird 5-speed, and I had one earlier. She can outrun most riceboxes and ALL V-8 current edition Thunderbirds, for example. It's the total package, not just the engine. That said, I...

Anyone use manual as daily driver?

Agreed!! Manual is the ONLY way to go if you're driving in snow. (Which I don't have to do anymore since I moved from the Tennessee mountains. Glad to be out of that part, although I do miss spring and summer in the mountains.)

No 18 inch wheel eveyone e-mail ford and scream

Who said "the Mustang ain't supposed to handle good"??? Maybe some on this board, but certainly not I. I'm one saying it should handle even better - with IRS. And I'm not saying what belongs on your Mustang... I said the aftermarket can supply. I said don't screw them all up.

No 18 inch wheel eveyone e-mail ford and scream

But we're talking about a MUSTANG, not a sports car.

Anyone use manual as daily driver?

Another thing I forgot to point out - which a mechanic just reminded me...... brake pads last 20-25% LONGER with a manual transmission.

No 18 inch wheel eveyone e-mail ford and scream

I'll email Ford and tell them to PLEASE don't put 18" wheels on the Mustang!! It's an American icon, not a ricebox!! There's always the aftermarket for those who want to ruin handling and looks in one pass!!

    So who's married?

Went to work at a grocery store after my freshman year in college. They put me bagging. Looked up and down the checkers and went to the prettiest one and started working at her register. One thing led to another. We had 39 years of marriage, mostly good, sometimes really great, before cancer...

Anyone use manual as daily driver?

My sweetie and I have 5 cars between us. The only automatic is the big ol' Dodge truck. Even her Infiniti 4-door is a manual. 3 five-speeds and a 6-speed. 3 domestics (truck, Mustang and BMW) and 2 imports. Manual is the only way to go, as far as we are concerned.
