    n/a or supercharged?

T & J Performance offers the Mongoose kit (Vortech SQ-Trim by Steeda, with all the accessoriers) for $3950. I got an e-mail from them and they can do the installation for $550, but I would need to make a pilgrimage to Georgia. They are also able to calibrate for my 4.10s. The total cost would...

    Bottlenecks in a stock GT

The 4.10 gears will probably cost you 2 mpg, although some people have reported gains in gas mileage. After the gears, I would focus on inexpensive mods like a K & N air filter ($50) to free up the intake and an o/r x-pipe ($200) to free up the exhaust. I would follow this up by replacing the...

    n/a or supercharged?

Thanks for the good advice. I'm not sure, however, that you can drop in a supercharger for $3,000. For example, I've done some research on a Kenne Bell system. The supercharger with intecooler is $4899 (add $650, if you want the polished version). The optional inlet system will cost $573...

    n/a or supercharged?

Aside from the safety issue, a n/a 4.6 offers more pride. After all, any idiot can make a supercharged 4.6 fast but it takes a special kind of idiot to make a n/a 4.6 fast. It's kind of like the difference between a steroid-using bodybuilder and a natural bodybuilder.

Gained 23 rwhp with LT Headers (see dynos)

I think that the vast majority of the gains, approximately 15 rwhp, came from the LT headers. Other postings have described similar gains.

    n/a or supercharged?

I've never thought of superchargers as being dangerous. With a safe tune, what can go wrong? Nitrous, on the other hand, is notorious for blowing engines.

    n/a or supercharged?

$2,000 in parts and 37 rwhp later, I've added nearly every bolt-on possible (see signature below). I am now at a crossroad. Do I stay n/a or do I go supercharged? If I stay n/a, I will have the heads polished and ported, buy new valves (springs), and a custom cam. With labor, the cost will...

how much does mid 13's cost?

Along with the 3.73 gears, make some minor modifications to the intake (K & N air filter, 70 mm tb/plenum) and to the exhaust (x-pipe). To improve traction, you may want to put on a lower control arm. That should put you into the mid-13's.

Gained 23 rwhp with LT Headers (see dynos)

Unfortunately, in the Mpls/St. Paul, we don't have a lot of performance shops to choose from. When I was pricing the installation of LT headers, most automotive shops were clueless. They would look at me like I was from another planet and then ask why I wanted to install them. After...

    best mods for money

Actually, there are only a few mods that offer any real gains. For na, good induction mods include tb/plenum and K & N air filter. Good exhaust mods include LT headers and x-pipe. You could also add u/d pulleys, timing adjuster or chip. Suspension mods include LCA, UCA, shocks, and struts...

lost low end torque with LT headers

Without a doubt, LT headers are the best performance part that I have purchased for my 4.6. I gained 23 rwhp and 28 ft/lbs of torque. After 3000 rpms, the car pulls like crazy. I plan to have my car dynoed again, and this time I will have them take the same measurements: STD Horsepower vs...

lost low end torque with LT headers

The dyno charts from Hitech Motorsports can be seen on my other posting, "Gained 23 rwhp with LT Headers." The dynos are somewhat confusing. The pre-mod dyno is STD Horsepower vs. Speed (mph), while the post-mod dyno is SAE Horsepower vs. RPM (x1000). Nonetheless, the pre-mod dyno shows that...

    Is it really worth it?

In the early seventies, a popular Ford engine was the 351 and a popular Chevy engine was the 350. Both of these motors came stock with about 250 bhp. When my friends and I modded these motors, we would try to match the horsepower with the cubic inches using basic bolt-ons. In other words, our...

    I'm in V8 Country!!

The conventional wisdom on stanget is make your first mod a change in rear end gears, swapping out the stock 3.23s for 4.10s. I followed this wisdom and was not disappointed. The low end torque is awesome. On the intake side, you can put in a K & N airfilter (2 rwhp), C & L TrueFlow inlet...

    mods, where to start?

The 4.10 gears will cost you $135, plus around $400 for installation. You will definitely wake up your 4.6 with these. X-pipes run from $150-500 depending upon the company and whether they are o/r or catted. They are good for around 8-10 rwhp. The catback exhaust will improve the sound of...

    Is it really worth it?

I've spent about $2,000 for performance parts and another $1,000 for labor. What has $3,000 gotten me? 37 rwhp. Of course, I am not done. For another $4,000, I will have the heads polished and ported and add custom cams. Why do it? Because I like Mustangs and acceleration is addicting...

    what mods next for me?

You could finish up your exhaust mods with an x-pipe and LT headers. Or you could focus on intake with a 75 mm tb and plenum. To help hook-up, you might want to put on some LCAs.

    Good brand for long tubes?

I got 23 rwhp out of my Hooker LT headers and matching o/r x-pipe. I bought them from Thunder Racing (good price and service). The headers will cost you $700 for ceramic (6230-1) or $470 for chrome (6230). The o/r x-pipe (16762) sells for $140.

lost low end torque with LT headers

The catback exhaust is stock. A Hooker o/r x-pipe replaced the stock catted h-pipe (this is the only mid-pipe that Hooker sells). And the Hooker LT headers replaced the stock exhaust manifolds. I'll try to find the post where someone regained torque by adding cats to their o/r x-pipe after...
