    What about this combo?

The 282S is a little big for your current set-up but it is a cam you can grow in to. However, a more reasonable cam would be the 272S or the XE 274. Remember, I said "adventurous". Small heads typically need a big cam, but with an automatic a smaller cam is probably an intelligent choice. I...

My First Time At The Track!!!!!!

The cam and valvetrain are going to be your limiting factor after you get a gear. I went through the same thing when I had a 302 in my '69. Started off with a 600 Holley DP, Edelbrock RPM intake, 2.79 gear and headers. Ran mid 15's at 88 MPH. Got a 3.89 gear and ran low 15's and floated the...

How do the aussie heads stack up against....

The Aussie heads are a 2v head with a quench combustion chamber. You will pick up horsepower due to the pick up of about a point to a point and a half of compression (10-15HP). They are good heads, but it is my belief that 2v's need porting to work well. Having said that, with the right...

    What about this combo?

I'd get a good cam and a Weiand Xcellerator intake if I were you. That would really liven up your performance. 289's can rev and the small, single plane by Weiand is ideal for your application. A strong solid cam like the Comp cams 282S would be great if you are adventurous. Just make sure you...

Where to start with upgrading my Mustangs engine?

Here was my setup for a 302 that put out 275 HP to the rear wheels with no tuning and a small carb: 600 Holley $200 Edelbrock RPM manifold $100 Cam kit: 230/235 duration .510/.515 lift $250...

    Help me choose a cam

I completely agree. The small heads need more duration, but you have to support them with the right hardware if you go with the bigger cam: l headers, 2.5" duals, good carb and intake (Weaind Xcellerator or Edelbrock RPM), good springs. I ran a 230/235 degree duration cam with .510/.515 lift...

351c 4bbl open chambered heads any good?

Everything you have is for a 2v setup so you may want to consider using it. But if you want to go with 4v heads this is a general prescription for a streetable, fun, go fast set-up: 750 Double Pumper carb Blue Thunder intake for the heavy car and automatic Solid cam – spec’s depend on your...

351c 4bbl open chambered heads any good?

That would be a disappointing cam unless you wanted something very mellow. Ironically, that small cam would do better with the bigger 4v heads because they need less cam with the big ports. But it really depends what you want to do with the car; if it is your daily driver then that isn't a bad...

How big is too big of a cam?

What’s to stop you is the small intake, heads and gear. A big cam will typically want big RPM’s and your set-up isn’t ready for that. If you went to a Weiand Xcellerator intake, 3.50+ gears, and had your heads fitted for good valves and springs (or better heads), then a cam would make sense. A...

351c 4bbl open chambered heads any good?

With the cam you have 4v heads should work well. Are you rebuilding the engine? If so, you could buy a set of Keith Black pop-up pistons for $200 that would get you 10.5:1 compression, otherwise a set of flat-tops would get you around 9.5:1. If you aren't rebuilding the engine you may want to...

Nice set-up. That is a helluva cam you picked, I am impressed, you are not fooling around. That should run really well. Please give us an update when you get it on the streets.

    New Carb. $300 to spend

If it's an automatic car I'd get a 600 Holley with vacuum secondaries. If it is a manual trans car feel free to go with a 600 Holley double pumper.

WHat do you guys think of this for 72' 351c?

You.ll love the quench 4v heads if you get them. That cam should be fine for them also. Run 10.5:1 – 11.0:1 compression. A Blue Thunder intake would be perfect for your set-up. 3.70 gears and you are good to go.

What are the engine spec's? What heads? Is that a Torker intake?

    351c 2bbl heads?

If you are into performance then the 4v quench heads are the way to go. All you need is an intake, good cam, gear and you have a fast car. 2v heads are good too, but they need some port work to hit their potential.

WHat do you guys think of this for 72' 351c?

That should be a good all-around cam, but didn’t it come with new valve springs? You will have to upgrade the valves for that new high performance cam. Also, that cam will like a gear like the 3.73 you mentioned so hopefully that is what is in the axle now. A bigger stall wouldn’t hurt, too...
