    Collapsible steering column

Anyone know how the parts interchange is for the early '65-'67 steering box - to- '68 steering box swap (particularly for the 1st generation cars)? I think the sector shaft is different; what other than the correct Pitman arm is needed to link a '68 steering box to the rest of a '65 V8 car's...

    what headers? t5 conversion...

Someone in a previous thread mentioned shielding the clutch cable with a length of that flexible corrugated metal wiring conduit that you can buy at Home Depot. Sounds like a good plan; I intend to try it with a set of Doug Thorley Tri-Ys.

Clutch advice for lil' old lady driving a '67 Fastback

If you stay with the mechanical linkage, consider a diaphragm-style pressure plate rather than a 3-finger style. A Centerforce I should be easy on the leg.

Where can I get a rear axle?

More detail would help. How, exactly, does the mechanic say the axle is damaged? Is the housing cracked, or perhaps just in need of new gears and/or a rebuilt differential? If it's a V-8 car with the "removable carrier" type axle assembly, you may not be looking for an entire axle...

    Gas Tank Restoration

IMO, restoration is for tanks that are not easily replaced. There are plenty of classic/antique vehicles which attract car enthusiasts, but don't have the abundant replacement part selections that Mustangs enjoy. For those vehicles, salvage yard tanks are sometimes the only option. Before...

    Ford 351W Vs. Buick 350?

As others have mentioned, the Buick 350 is a decent enough engine, but a Skylark is at a large weight disadvantage when compared with a V-8 Mustang. My cousin had a thing for Buicks - I helped him spin wrenches on a '67 Riviera and a '72 Skylark GS 455. That 455 was warmed-up to '70 Stage 1...

Floor pan replacement help. 1966 coupe.

I think you'll be okay if you do one side at a time. I know there are full-width replacement floorpans available, but I'd avoid taking out more original metal than necessary - especially the transmission tunnel. On a convertible, I'd suggest bracing at the door jambs, but that's overkill on a...

    Headlights blink on and off

It's usually the headlight switch in the dashboard. There's a circuit breaker in there that often cuts out when halogen lamps are installed. The blinking is caused by the switch cooling a bit and the circuit breaker resetting, which happens repeatedly. Some people swap in the switch from a...

    Front Timing Cover Oil Leak

I don't see one in that picture attached above. It's just a small sheetmetal disc that slides on the crank before the timing cover goes on. Check the inside of the timing cover for an obvious cast-in drip rail above the crank seal area. If it has a rail, you should be okay without the oil...

    Front Timing Cover Oil Leak

Did the shop install an oil slinger in front of the crank timing gear? I know there are sometimes clearance issues when running a double-roller timing chain, but it does help keep oil away from that seal.

What to do: Keep car from gettin stolen.

Yeah, that would be inadvisable. There used to be a neat product offered by Jacobs Electronics (the ignition products company) called the "Stop Action", which was a computerized "ignition kill" gadget. Not only did you have to remember to toggle a momentary-on switch before turning the...

What to do: Keep car from gettin stolen.

My first Mustang, a '65 2+2, was last seen being towed from the parking space where I'd locked it up. That was in '83, and the car never turned up. It had a hidden ignition kill switch and a pre-"Club" steering wheel lock (the kind that loops around the brake pedal). It was on a university...

how can i lock my hood shut?

The voice of experience is here to give you a heads-up: Keep the "front end" of that hood lock cable well lubricated. If you don't, it'll corrode and bind up. The spring under the key lock plunger just isn't strong enough to pull the cable back to the "unlocked" position if there is anything...

    70-79 Truck 2 Speed/intermitent Wiper Motor In To A 1966 Mustang

This topic has come up here a few times, but usually fizzles out when the discussion turns to the wiring harness or the wiper motor. I'll happily bump this thread back to the top, in hopes that it'll get a bit more attention. As for your question, IIRC, the truck motor is a bit faster than...

Ok All You Efi Gurus, Here's Your Chance To Help

Check for electrical system Technical Service Bulletins and/or recalls on that van. There were some problems with the large pickups and vans involving the "multi-purpose switch" in the steering column; though I'm not sure if that year was included.

    Granada/Versailles disk brake questions

Have you checked your Versailles axle housing to see if it's the one that can be converted to Explorer calipers? Either Mustang Steve or Ultrastang has the specifications on his webpage - I forget which. That conversion would gain you more modern, highly available parts, lighter weight...

65 bogs down and dies on highway

I think you're just seeing the "heat soak" boil-off that these cars sometimes exhibit after shut-down - that's why later models have an overflow bottle. As for the thermostat, if the car is not overheating when you drive it, there's probably no problem there. It sounds like you've got a weak...

    Do I need guide plates?

Keep in mind that when the rocker mount pedestals are milled down for screw-in studs, the thickness of guideplates is often factored in. If you're not going to use guideplates, adjust the instructions to your machinist accordingly.
