    Don't be afraid of 3.73s. I ran them for years before my 4.10s went in. You can still get very good mpg with a 5 speed and 3.73s There is no better performance mod than gears IMO.

    Yeah, it's rarely (never), both cheap and easy to pick up any real power. A lot of little mods can be done, and then you hit a wall. I'm at that expensive wall where you break stuff with all that power you wanted so bad. :)

    If I had a $300 budget for heads I would get some Explorer heads and perhaps your buddy could freshen them up a bit. You wouldn't outgrow them as fast as E7s. Explorers and gears and you should be near your goal if you get any traction at all.

    Some low mileage AFR165 heads, Edelbrock Performer TMOSS ported intake and some gears for now. IMO a better option than iron heads because you have more room for growth as you find more money, without starting over again. I just happen to know where you might accomplish this with your budget...

    You'll like the 3.73s better. I went from 3.73s to 4.10s and picked up maybe .15 at the track NA. And now running out of gear on a 100 shot. 3.73s are a great street-strip gear.
