Lets talk Chassis stiffening and body flex

Black, As I understand it, I think most feel a roll bar main hoop with diagonal bars to the rearmost suspension mounting points is sufficient stiffening at the rear. It triangulates and braces the rear frame rails. Along with the wheel houses and rear package tray bracing I think the...

    Identification # decoder?

    To expand on NasaGT's reply On all ford part numbers the first two characters are the year: First character = decade C = 60s D = 70s E = 80s etc second character = given year C9.... = 69 D1.... = 71 D2.... = 72 E4.... = 84

    Expanding Foam

As far as absorbing water goes, I would think the stuff at the home improvement stores does not. I can't imagine you could use it on your house if it did. You'd get a lot of wood rot! I have some and I used it to seal and insulate any gaps when I installed my windows last year. I'm also using it...

    HIDEOUS ABOMINATION on mag cover

Miatas are an ok car. I can think of about a dozen other cars I'd rather have. I saw this in a magazine a while back and I don't like it at all. As has been said before the proportions are all wrong and it looks like a caricature. M1 seems to think this is the best thing since sliced bread and...

Ford is suing companies for use of Mustang name?

I've owned 14 mustangs, a 72 Gran Torino Sport, 84 Mercury Marquis, 87 Taurus, 89 T-bird (traded in at 140K mi), 91 E-150 conversion van (traded in at 245K mi), 00 Escort ZX2, and an01 Sable. Ok Ford, What does that tell you about brand loyalty. I'm thinking of buying a new car next summer. I've...

    My 1970 Mustang project - Frame/Floorpan/Subframes.

I definately want my exhaust out the back and since the back seat will no longer be there this looked like I good idea to me. The new tunnel will end at the crossmember coming from the firewall. The space between it and the right rear wheelwell looks like a good place for the battery and amps...

    My 1970 Mustang project - Frame/Floorpan/Subframes.

Ok, BlackGMC and 351w_swap, you got me thinking with the issue of running the exhaust out the back with your crossmembers in the way. I came up with an idea I'm going to use. Here's a picture of a quick layout I did in AutoCad. The center triangular opening is large enough for the driveshaft & 2...

    69 coupe quarter grille

The plan is to run a sealed duct to each side from the base of the rear window or package tray if I keep it. The trunk will be sealed off. The ducts and exhaust vents will be sealed off to the quarter also so air will not get inside the body. I'll be making an inner piece from sheetmetal (like a...

    69 coupe quarter grille

I added a pic of the original to my last post.

    69 coupe quarter grille

As you know the original pieces are simulated rear facing scoops. I wanted a functional way to exhaust interior air similar to the upper air extractors on the 65 - 68 fastbacks. I noticed a long time ago that when I had the kick panel vents open and the windows down the air flowed great. With...

    69 coupe quarter grille

I basically flared the opening to match the contour of the pot metal piece. The interior of the vent will consist of a panel extending forward from the straight but slightly curved rear edge of the opening at a slight angle towards the center of the car. Aditional sheetmetal will wrap around the...

    69 coupe quarter grille

Here's what I'm going to do in place of the lower quarter grilles. I thought about the shelby scoops but wanted something different so I came up with an Idea to make them into a functional air extractor vent to take advantage of the high flowing kick panel vents. I used the actual piece to...

Problem with the post reply screen

I use Bluemoon so I don't know if it happens with the other themes but when I reply to posts the message box (the darker gray box where the reply is typed) is always shifted to the right placing the last column of smileys off the screen. It's not a scrolling issue. It does this at home and at...

    1969 302 Mustang?!?!?

Nope, that's the way they go. I don't see why not. It wouldn't take much to match them up. I'm doing something different with my lower quarter scoops. I'll post pics when I get the film developed. I just haven't bought a digital camera yet. 69s have them, 70s don't.

    70 Mach 1 - 351C - what rearend did it come with?

I would say no. My 9" came from a 351C equipped 70 cougar XR7. I pulled the entire rear myself. Its not nodular. Its 3.00:1 open gears and 28 spline axles. It looked to be original to the car.
