noob question: effect of differential on wheels

(I wondered if someone was going to pick up on that.) It doesn't. I'm guessing Pops car has a buggered up locker.

Adding set of headlights in grille

On my first II I had lights mounted on top of hte bumper in front of the grill. Used a light with a round pedestal, drilled the cover then reamed the cover to a tight fit about the pedestal. Bolted the light directly to the bumper structure. Looked really good and I didn't need to worry...

I am in need of 4 speed transmisson information.

As a P.S. When doing major component replacements such as transmissions and axles I've found it best to replace as a unit. For a trans it would be from engine plate (and pilot bearing) to output yoke. That way you know you have a component made of components that are known to work...

    Carburetor '78 V6 engine

    I think I have a '78 V6 2bbl in the garage. It's just a standard Non California 2bbl, far as I can tell.

I am in need of 4 speed transmisson information.

A regular C4 bell works with stock manifolds with above mentioned removal of metal from the dough nut ear on the right manifold. I hear aftermarket headers can be made to clear. About money, both the old top loaders and new T-5 are expensive. I honestly don't know which would cost...

I am in need of 4 speed transmisson information.

My problem with the RAD wasn't the gearing or strength of the transmission. The transmissions didn't stay in reverse very well, and the single rod shifter setup ... it didn't work very well for some of us. And what your buddies are telling you about the T-5, the first T-5s were weak but...

I am in need of 4 speed transmisson information.

I've put a wide ratio RUG in a II, with a little grinding on the doughnut rar the stock manifolds work. The oversize bell may require spacing the radius arm bracket cross member back a little (in one car it didn't , in the other car it did). RUG shifter needs spaced back 1 1/2 inches more...

    1976 Cobra II

Far as the front brakes you can get everything from dinky factory sized rotors redrilled to take 5 lug, to Granada (or S10) rotors and adapted calipers, to aftermarket disks cast with or without the hubs, separate hubs, and 4 piston calipers. $$$ Far as rear axles are concerned there are...

Screwed up, used Scotch Brite..now what?

Interesting. When I was doing fleet maintenance my boss, Mr. Goodwrench (certified GM "mechanic") used a die grinder with Scotchbrite pad to clean Everything. Aluminum, Iron, didn't matter. I asked him about the gouges and heavy scratches he was making, he said silicone handles those...

Rust is here-kind of a whinish rant I guess

I feel a measure of guilt for not offering to look this over for you. If the car has AC don't be surprised to find something really unpleasant in the front left of the passenger foot well. Pin holing of the floor pan is to be expected. Rot between the floor pans and structures is also an...

    does anyone know the truth

I was wondering because: If its a 'rarity' thing, IIs are rare enough anymore, and IIs with "t"s are rarer still though I'll bet proportionally more "T"s are preserved than other IIs. If it's a parts availability thing ... You are so screwed. :rlaugh: Factory II parts are rare to begin...

    A few more questions

Yep, after the initial investment you don't get into a whole lot more ... unless you have a Versailles 9". Then the brakes get darned expensive. Russ, I got my first II new in '78. I've spent a little time with the cars. First let me warn you: If/Before you pull the axle make sure you...

    Power Brake booster removal?

Using a 3/8 drive it takes about a foot long extension. universal joint and I think a deep well socket. The rod end is retained with a hair pin. Pull the pin, partially remove the rod, remove the brake light switch, don't lose the rod end bushings. Shouldn't need to remove the seat if...

Power rack, anything I should save?

I think you'll need to save the rag joint and all hardware down to the bottom yoke that attaches to the steering rack. That yoke has a different diameter spline. OTOH just use the power rack without the power. Others here can tell you more about that.
