What oil viscosity is everyone using? [If you've changed it yet, of course]

As far as i knew, one of the reasons that mfgs use lighter oils is that the engines are so new and the clearances are so tight that a thinner oil is able to work it's way into the needed spaces easier than a thicker one. Yes, the lighter weight for mileage and power is true as well. Consider...

Need some answers from the EFI guys

I'm almost positive you need the baro sensor, acts like a MAP sensor and let's your computer adjust fuel control and stuff for different altitudes. EGR can be fooled with a couple resistors soldered together, website below. You are missing a harness if you have none to hook to the alt, you can...

Trunk battery + starter selonoid q's

Here's what I did (or am doing). I relocated the battery, and am running 1ga cable to the starter through a cutout switch so I can choose to have a live wire that long through the car. I mounted a modern type solonoid (AZ pn# F492) behind the rear seats. The start wire from switch goes here and...

FREAKING FINALLY - The car started today. ??? on volts and whatnot.

Let's see, of the top of my head the Alt pn is DL7134-6-11, but don't quote me on that. I believe it is like 128.99 if you bring in a core... if they are newbs you might be able to bring in any ol' alt for the core... if not go to another one and bring the core back there where they will not...

FREAKING FINALLY - The car started today. ??? on volts and whatnot.

As an autozone employee, I would probably not reccomend using a stock type alternator with a electric fan and fuel pump... the stock harness is notorious for voltage drops (over time that is) and adding the other accesories (I'm assuming through relays) puts a larger load on the system... I...

It was a good Christmas this year.

The bolt pattern is the same, it's the backspacing on the wheels that is different. On modern cars the backspacing is more so that the brakes ride basically in the center of the wheel. To use a stock modern wheel, say like the bullet wheel, you'd have to get I believe a 1" adapter plate to bolt...

What brand of Oil Filter do you use?

Motorcraft on mine as well, even use a motorcraft on my dodge :) (THe FL-300 is the same thread as FL1A and the PH/S16 filters that dodges use). I also read the minimopar report... one of the reasons I am now personally trying to bring down FRAm one filter at a time at autozone. :D...

REALLY OT: My Red Neck is Showing!

I will concur with the misguided children part, as I too will soon be joining the corps just as soon as I get 3 years of college out of the way... And yes, we do ride around in Navy equipment, but that's only because we are a department of the Navy... then MEN'S department :jester...

    Help with mini starter please

Check the battery for cranking amperage as well, a battery can have a full charge but no amps and amps is what the starter draws to turn. Also, depending on it's health it could be the starter... you can test it at home, but I would recommend a switched tester that most autoparts stores use. It...

HELP! Oil pan vs. some big brace bar

I agree with 65fastback... unless the pan is different than a normal front sump 302 pan, and your motor mounts are good, it should fit. I put a HUGE canton pan under mine and I just had to drop the cross member to get it out and in. No rubbing afterwards. The Swede

    OT: Overhaulin (On TLC)

Just found out about this a couple days ago and remembered this thread. Apparently, overhaulin' was in my city (Austin) this week, putting together some 70s pontiac vert I think. I'm not gonna go up there though, they supposedly have the entire driveway and building blocked off, so it's a waste...

Gonna buy an engine stand tomorrow... advice

My dad tells me today that i need to clean up the back porch a little, meaning I need to get my engine up on a stand and the tranny out of the way. Any recommendations on types of stands to get? I was looking at just the basic 1000lb one from harbor freight, it's got the t-style arm extending...

    Edelbrock carb help... please?

I think i figured out what my problem is! After I clocked out at work tonight I grabbed a carb just like mine off of the shelf, sat on a stool with it in my lap and just fiddled with it for a little bit. As far as I can tell, the choke isn't pulling the choke plate open enough, hence the...

    Edelbrock carb help... please?

Ok, guess I was wrong about the secondaries, my bad. Thanks guys. As far as how long I've had the carb it was on the car when I bought it, and has run fine for about 3 years now. A little while ago I think I left my electric fuel pump on and it ran down my batt. I thought it might have done...

    Edelbrock carb help... please?

Hey everyone- yet again I need more help with my car and I'm hoping someone can help me. I've had a problem with my car once I finally got it running- it was a little tough to start, then once started idles fine. I Need serious help with my ignition switch...

Thanks for the response PB, I ohm out all of the wires connecting to the + side of the solonoid. Only two showed continuity to ground. They ended up joining together (factory) near the firewall. From there they split off into one yellow wire for the ignition switch and one for the fuse box...

I Need serious help with my ignition switch...

I've been trying to find out why my car keeps eating Optimas... so far 2 in the past 2 weeks, the last one without getting out of my driveway. I tried tracing back the wiring, here's what I found out. With the battery out, I ohmed each wire at the solonoid . Three wires ohmed out to having...

    Two questions...Wiring, and Steering Column

Unless my parts-monkey-eyes deceive me, the late model solonoid (PN# Wells/Conrade F492) is between the left fuse block and the green peice with what I thought was the 9th relay and another wire. You could also say it is 1/3 the way to the alarm box from the left fuse block.... Can anyone...

    Two questions...Wiring, and Steering Column

Ok.. I see 8, possibly 9, bosch type relays (the 5 prong ones), two fuse boxes with 16 fuses, and alarm box, and fuel pressure box of some sort (regulator?, cuttoff?), a later model solonoid- good god GP! And that's 1!!!! Umm, wanna come wire my car? I have beer! J/k Hijack but sorta...
