    Does a K&N filter add 170hp???

 I hope he was joking. He did have one thing right, the K&N filter does add 170 hp. 10 hp for the filter and 160 hp for the sticker on the air cleaner housing. I would imagine that mid-12's should be possible with that combination. :) Mike

    Budget minded RR suspension

I have already noticed this event in my '86 GT. What is the suggested correction to this problem? Are there solutions available through Griggs and MM? Mike

what the wait time to get a Kenne bell...

^^^^^ Which kind? The KB is basically an upper intake manifold swap with some A/C line relocations. And thanks to the gentleman that answered the orginal question! :D Mike

PI 3000 lockup stall too much for a stock setup???

Precision Industries makes the best torque converters in my opinion. The converter will work for you now, but it would be better for you to get it re-stalled by PI (I can't recall what they charge for it, but it was reasonable). However, even if you don't, you will have a blast driving the...

Taking a 21yr old car to the track for a baseline.....

^^^^^ I will practice a bit more and hope that the next trip to the strip will net better 60 ft. times, which should also help with 1/4 mile et. My tach reaches to 5,800 rpm in the yellow, but it won't go there. On my first pass I tried to make the car rev to 5K rpm in each gear, but it...

next upgrade for my '90 gt racecar?

^^^^ Looks good to me, dial in an alignement that suits your driving style and run it. Only you will be able to tell if the car needs any improvements and with the list of modifications that the car already has, you have an incredibly good start. Mike

Taking a 21yr old car to the track for a baseline.....

I appreciate the response and thank you for the suggestions, unfortunately I am just reading them this morning. :) The car did well at the track, no breaks, no leaks, and no problems. I found that launching the GT is a greater challenge than orginally anticipated. With no prior...

Taking a 21yr old car to the track for a baseline.....

I'm not much of a dragracer anymore (I prefer to spend my time circulating road courses), but I want to get a number to compare future modifications and improvements. This will be the first time I will pilot my bone-stock '86 GT down the 1/4 mile. Do you guys have any suggestions of shift...

Doesn't want to rev past 5K rpm, normal?

Yes, it will rev past 5K, but very slowly. In fact, it really struggles past 5,300 rpm. I would not say that it stops pulling, I just don't have time to wait until it gets past 5K. :D Sounds like that is the nature of the beast. Mike

Doesn't want to rev past 5K rpm, normal?

I want to replace the retainers, springs, pushrods, and rockers NOW. Any suggestions to some bolt-on roller rockers and springs for the stock motor? I don't want to run this thing very hard until these items are replaced. Mike

Doesn't want to rev past 5K rpm, normal?

I plan to build a engine sometime after I purchase and install a supercharger. At the moment I am driving and running the car to test it's reliability and strength. I know that I have flat top pistons which is why I want to piece a engine together built with new components. This way, I can...

Doesn't want to rev past 5K rpm, normal?

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking it had something to do with the factory heads and intake. I just wanted to get some feedback from you folks regarding the sudden slowdown in the upper rpms. Mike

    Torque Converters

Your torque converter stall selection also depends on the camshaft and other modifications done to the car. Where is your power band? You want the converter to hit the start of power band when you nail the throttle. However, I agree that 2,400-3,000 is a great place to start. I had a...

Doesn't want to rev past 5K rpm, normal?

I have a completely stock '86 GT 5.0 5-spd and the car does not like to rev past 5,000 rpms during hard acceleration, is this normal? The power band seems to run out at around 4,800 - 5,000 rpms which leads me to believe that it could be pointless to pull the car past the 5k mark. However...
