    Intermittent engine miss, 68 5.0L

Yeah, I hear ya. Personally I'm not an HEI fan even in GM cars. I bought a new GMC pickup years ago and it left me stranded within 40K miles of very easy use due to the HEI. Sometimes they run forever, sometimes they run for a week. I think you're on the right track.

    Intermittent engine miss, 68 5.0L

It's just an observation, however, I bypassed my pink wire completely by going right to the ignition switch itself for my 12V source. I see lots of anti-Pertronix comments on the internet and on reviews, but I've never experienced any problems, not because I'm a tuning wizard, but I did follow...

    Intermittent engine miss, 68 5.0L

So if I understand this, you ran the Pertronix with the resistor wire, correct? This is a no-no if in fact that's what you did and will cause failure. But anyway, you ran it for years and it failed for whatever reason. So you then switched to a HEI ignition and then the carb went bad? How the...

    Correct T5 for a '68 Mustang

Also, it has to be the same as the ones from a Fox-bodied Mustang ('93 and older) otherwise the shifter won't be in the right place. Make life easier and grab all the stuff (trans, bellhousing, flywheel, block plate) from the same car. You'll need a new crossmember and clutch system (buy a...

    T-5 throwout bearing arm

Not sure if this ever got resolved, but I just wanted to add that if you're using a bellhousing and clutch actuation system from an early Mustang, remember that you need to add a 1" spacer under the stamped steel fulcrum (it's an "L" shaped piece riveted to the bellhousing) for the clutch arm...

    Oil change question

I use Valvoline 20-W50 VR1 since it has zinc. My engine only has about maybe 5K miles on it, I change it once a year (maybe 800 miles) and it doesn't use oil, slow any signs of trash or cause any other problems. I live in Southern Oregon where summer temps get 100+ daily and my car sees a good...

    T-5 throwout bearing arm

If the clutch arm is contacting the front of the bellhousing opening before the clutch releases, it doesn't matter if it's cable, hydraulic or a branch off the neighbor's oak tree, it's having to travel waaaay too far. T5 clutch setups are designed to have slight pressure, which means the...

65 Mustang 289 w/A/C Converting Stock Radiator to Aluminum

Here's what I run. Pricey, but better than a Holley and does NOT leak anywhere. https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetors/quick_fuel/black_diamond_series/slayer_series/parts/BD-1957

    T-5 throwout bearing arm

I don't think that's likely. With the offset clutch hub on the disc, I don't think the pressure plate will bolt up with the disc in backwards since the disc will hit the flywheel bolts. My guess without pics is that the throwout bearing has broken, or fallen off the arm during install.

I replaced mine with a chrome one I bought from Summit. Seems to be fine so far.

    T5 vs Toploader 4 speed???

I hope this doesn't offend the OP, but you're building a recipe for failure. You don't have the budget for a stout trans to handle the HP you have now, but you have the budget to plan for more HP. See where I'm going with this? Lord knows I'm on a budget myself, but here's the bottom line...

65 Mustang 289 w/A/C Converting Stock Radiator to Aluminum

I misunderstood about the moving/idling thing. But that helps. A car should be hotter sitting, with no air movement. The fact that it's better at idle suggests a tuning problem. Triple check your timing with a good light. I like 8°-10° BTDC at idle (without the vacuum advance plugged in) and 32°...

65 Mustang 289 w/A/C Converting Stock Radiator to Aluminum

Let's reduce this to the basics: your cooling system is essentially nothing more than a heated block of metal with ports for water, a cooling element (radiator) cooled by moving air (fan or vehicle speed) a pump to move the water, a thermostat to regulate water flow and a gauge to read the...

65 Mustang 289 w/A/C Converting Stock Radiator to Aluminum

Good find! Yeah if there's no thermostat, the coolant doesn't have the needed restriction to slow down long enough in the radiator to be cooled properly. Bet that fixes your problem.

I replaced my water pump just as a precaution, but I doubt that's your problem. Here's how 'd approach it: First, verify your gauge is accurate. If it's not puking coolant out at shutoff, it may not be as hot as you think. Buy a laser heat gun. Harbor Freight...

65 Mustang 289 w/A/C Converting Stock Radiator to Aluminum

If I can offer a little advice, here's some things to look for: mine bolted right in. However, the drain petcock felt closed, but wasn't. As a precaution, I poured some water in first to fill the bottom tank to make sure it was sealing before I poured anti-freeze all over my floor. It wasn't...

Do you keep a spare tire in your car?

This is a good topic for lots of car guys. Here's my take: any car worth owning should have bigs on the back and littles on the front. My wife's '69 Corvette has 295/50 rear and 265/50 front. If you carry the smaller tire, you'll kill the limited slip by using it on the rear and if you carry the...

65 Mustang 289 w/A/C Converting Stock Radiator to Aluminum

Same here. I used to either park my car or only drive it early in the day or late, because I knew if I took out and got stuck in traffic, even for a short time, it would be puking coolant. Not now, cold as ice and since the temps are now reasonable, it starts better when hot.

65 Mustang 289 w/A/C Converting Stock Radiator to Aluminum

I got mine from here http://www.speedcooling.com/radiators/ and couldn't be happier. It fits perfectly, looks nice and I've sat in traffic on a 100° day and it never got past halfway on my stock gauge even with a stock fan and no shroud. The stocker it replaced was up near "H" anytime the temp...
