Air Cleaner Clearance Issue with Export Brace and Maybe the Hood

I had a car that the owner had bought the El Cheepo brace and it wouldn't clear the Filter. I took a Crescent wrench and carefully bent it up along the rear portion and was able to gain the clearance that way. It was on a painted brace though and I would not recommend doing it to a Chrome one...

Air Cleaner Clearance Issue with Export Brace and Maybe the Hood

Some export braces aren't stamped the same and are wider at the rear. The one in 2+2's pic is stamped with deep groves, if yours have shallower groves it might be wider and interfere with the Air Cleaner.

    Clutch chatter advice please

Make sure all the Z bar and clutch release components are in good condition, including the pedal assembly. I recently rebuilt a pedal assembly with a roller bearing kit and it eliminated about 90% of the chatter on a 3 spd, which IMO are prone to chatter. Also, did you replace the pilot bearing...

    1968 289 H2O

I did notice in one pic that there was a broken Compression ring. If who ever assembled the engine broke it that hole would also be "soft on compression" and consume oil and smoke and piss off the owner of a freshly built engine motivating him to use said engine as a boat anchor.

    Sanden PN

Is there a local A/C shop in your area? They will know which Compressor you need. Almost all Sanden Compressors that are made for aftermarket applications have the same 8 mounting ears on them and share the same dimensions. Since R-134a came out in 93'-94' it would be harder to find an R-12...

    T5 Shifter?

My driver is a 90 GT and I have owned three other Fox body stangs, all with T-5's and stock shifters and I never had a problem breaking anything. Like I said, unless you are planning on beating the car mercilessly the stock shifter will be fine. And +1 on modifying the 3spd lever. I did that...

    T5 Shifter?

I have been wondering about those $50 ebay shifters myself. I think that unless you are planning on doing a lot of aggressive shifting that the stock unit is fine.

The best R&P kit on the market is the Total Control Products kit. IMO.

Detailed the engine on my 72'

I used VHT Header paint. I have had good luck with the stuff. It requires some prep work first. I sanded them all with emory cloth and some sanding discs, then just apply as per instructions. :flag:

need help with brake light wiring

Ahh, so I'm guessing that you aren't concerned with turn signals and just want some brake lights. I hope the info I gave you was helpful.

    1968 289 H2O

Horseballz, thats a funny story. I have heard stories of flatheads running for hours with no oil. I watched a 4.6L modular V8 seize in about 45 seconds.

Those pistons also appear to be popups with full floating pins, if the resolution on my computer is that good. #6 looks promising, the rest remain to reveal their hidden secrets. Like I said earlier, that engine looks like it was gone through shortly before they took the car fishing.

need help with brake light wiring

Did you cut the wires to the Turn switch also? There are actually two wires that feed the brake lights since they double as Brake and Turn lights. Coming out of the turn switch you have an Orange/Blue that feeds the right rear and a Light Green/Red that feeds the left rear. If you are planning...
